Charles M. Litzelman, 80, of Dushore, died Nov. 24, 1992, at Memorial Hospital, Towanda. He was born March 4, 1912, in Dushore, a son of Matthias and Josephine Marshall Litzelman.
He attended St. Basil’s School in Dushore and was engaged in dairy farming with his brother, Paul until the farm was sold in 1968. He worked for PennDOT for seven years and retired in 1975.
Mr. Litzelman was a member of St. Basil’s Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society and its cemetery Association.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary T. Cook whom he married Oct. 12, 1940; three sons, John C. of Northville, MI; Joseph P. of Arlington, VA and Michael F. of Northfield, VT; a daughter, Mrs. John (Emily A.) Hanzok of Lansdale; a brother, Paul of Estella; a sister, Mrs. Vernon (Helen) Broschart of Dushore; 11 grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers, Francis, George, Leo; and a sister, Lydia (Sister Emily I.H.M.).
Funeral services were held Nov. 28 at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, Dushore, followed by a Mass of Christian burial in St. Basil’s Church with the very Rev. Patrick J. McLaughlin, V.F. officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Funeral Services Held Monday for Mary T. Litzelman, age 89, of Dushore, Pa., passed away on Friday, May 19, 2000, at Gwynned Square Nursing Center, Lansdale, Pa.
Mary was born December 26, 1910, the daughter of the late John Patrick and Mary Abigail McDonald Cook. Mary graduated from St. Basil's High School, a member of the Class of 1929. She married Charles Mathias Litzelman of Dushore on October 12, 1940. She graduated from the Mansfield State Teacher's College in 1931 and taught at the Sullivan County Elementary School at Turnpike for many years.
Mary and Charles operated their family farm in Cherry Township until retiring in 1968. Charles predeceased her on November 24, 1992.
Mary was a very active member of St. Basil's Catholic Church in Dushore and a member of its Altar and Rosary Society. She was very active in the Sullivan County Democrat Party and was the Cherry Township Committeewoman for many years.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, John C. and Carole Litzelman, Highland, MI, Joseph P. and Katelynn Litzelman, Kailua, HI, Michael F. and Monica Litzelman, Northfiled, VT; a daughter and son-in-law, Emily A. and John Hanzok, Jr., Lansdale; a sister-in-law and spouse, Helen and Vernon Broschart, Dushore; 11grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by sisters, Florence Bridget Cook on October 18, 1979 and Gertrude McDonough on May 13, 1993.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 22 at 10 a.m. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water Street, Dushore, and was followed by a mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bsil's Church, Dushore, with the Rev. Michael B. Harris, her pastor, presiding. Interment was in the adjoining parish cemetery.
Friends called at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home on Sunday, May 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m.

Sister M. Emily (Lydia) Litzelman, b. 10-12-1903  d. 4-17-1974                    The Sullivan Review  , 4-25-1974
Sister M. Emily (Lydia) Litzelman, I.H.M., died April 17, 1974 at the Marian Covent, Scranton.
She was born October 12, 1903, in Cherry Township, a daughter of Mathias and Josephine Marshall Litzelman.
After graduating from St. Basil's High School in Dushore in 1920, she entered the order of Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Scranton.
She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Helen Broschart; four brothers, Paul, George, and Charles, Dushore and Francis of Overton. A brother, Leo, preceded her in death in 1968.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 19 by Monsignor Griffin at the Marian Convent. Altar boys were pupils of Sister Emily from St. Mary's School, Avoca. Nephews served as pallbearers, lector, and offered the gifts. Interment was in St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.

Freda Litzelman Cilvick, 95, of Forks Twp., Sullivan County, PA, passed away on Dec. 2, 2005 at DarWay Nursing Home in Estella, PA.
She was born on Nov. 12, 1910, a daughter of the late John O. and Bertha Streby Litzelman.
Freda spent most of her lifetime in Sullivan County. She enjoyed spending time with her family and caring for her home and garden.
She is survived by her children, James L. Bahl, New Albany RR2, Catherine Bahl Robbins, Dushore RR4, John R. Bahl, New Albany RR2; a sister, Alma and Richard Cummisky of New Albany; a sister-in-law, Marion Worthington; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three husbands: Leon Bahl in 1937, Leo Flynn in 1946 and Joseph Cilvick in 1981; by two brothers, Emerson L. Litzelman in 1998 and Lester (Jim) Litzelman in 1964.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 5 at 11 a.m. at the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home, 119 Carpenter Street, Dushore, with Rev. Burt Kozen, officiating.
Friends and family called on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
Interment followed in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Overton.

Services were held here Wednesday, Dec. 28, 1966 for George Charles Litzelman of 830 Park Avenue, Williamsport, Pa., who died Sunday, Dec. 25, 1966, in Divine Providence Hospital. He was an employee of Sylvania Electric Products for 10 years,. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church of the Annunciation and its Holy Name Society. He was a veteran of the Second World War.  Surviving are his wife, Margaret; a daughter Mrs. Shirley Litzelman of this city; two brothers, Paul of Harrisburg and Bernard of Dushore; and a sister, Miss Bernadine Litzelman of this city.

Burial was in St. Boniface Cemetery.

George A. Litzelman, 81, of Dushore died March 19, 1989, at his home. He was born on May 28, 1907, in Cherry Township, a son of Mathias and Josephine Marshall Litzelman.
A lifelong resident of Sullivan County, he was a farmer and for 25 years owned and operated the GLF Mill in Dushore (now Agway). He was a member of St. Basil’s Roman Catholic Church, Dushore, and its Holy Name Society.
Surviving are his wife, the former Loretta Pritchard, whom he married April 27, 1931; five sons, George of Bryceville, FL; Gerald Of Orange Park, FL; Bernard, Donald and Gordon, all of Dushore; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Jane Trasco of Dushore and Mrs. Marlene Pardoe of Forksville;
brothers Paul and Charles, both of Dushore; and a sister, Mrs. Vernon (Helen) Broschart of Dushore; 21 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Marie Broschart in 1973; a sister Lydia (sister Emily I.H.M.) in 1974; and brothers, Leo in 1968 and Francis in 1977.
Funeral services were held yesterday at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, Dushore, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Basil’s Church. Rev. Patrick J. McLaughlin officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Litzelman, George Mrs. Loretta F.    (February 28, 1914 - March 5, 2009) 

Mrs. Loretta Litzelman, age 95, wife of the late George Litzelman, of Dushore, PA passed away Thursday, March 05, 2009 at the Dar-Way Elder Care in Estella, PA.

Loretta was born in Stroudsburg, PA on February 28, 1914 daughter of the late Orrin & Almeda Shaffer Prichard. She was raised by her grandparents who had a farm across from the Litzelman farm in Cherry Township. She married George A. Litzelman Sr. of Dushore, PA on April 27, 1931. George predeceased her on March 19, 1989 after 57 years of marriage. She was a homemaker and loved knitting and making crafts and made many doll babies over the years and enjoyed keeping exotic birds and pets. Loretta was a member of St. Basil’s Catholic Church in Dushore and a member of its Altar and Rosary Society.

Litzelman Jr. on March 3, 2008 and a sister Iva Carson and a great grandson, Maximus Litzelman on February 11, 2009 and an infant grandson, Christopher Stewart.

A Transferal Service will be held on Monday, March 9, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M. at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA with the Rev. Joseph R. Hornick, her pastor, presiding. Interment will be in St. Basil’s Cemetery.

Mrs. Ella Litzelman, 70, of Forks Township, Dushore RD 2, died Oct. 3, 1977 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa, following a lingering illness.
She was born Feb. 12, 1907, in Sullivan County, a daughter of George and Fiat Bentley Crouse. She was a lifetime resident of Sullivan County. She was a member of Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ in Overton.
Her husband, Henry Litzelman, died June 20, 1969.
She is survived by three sons, Elwood Richlin of Dushore RD 2, Joseph Richlin, Phelps, NY, and Bruce V. Richlin of Towanda RD 4; one daughter, Mrs. George (Zeta) Ballantine of New Albany RD; two brothers, Arthur Bentley of Lopez and Henry Bentley of Hollywood, FL; three sisters, Mrs. John (Agnes) Shiline of Michigan, Mrs. Mamie Bay of New York State and Mrs. Lawrence (Alverta) Rohe of Dushore RD 2; also a stepson, Larue Litzelman of New Albany RD; 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, Oct. 6 at 2 o’clock in Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ in Overton. Officiating will be the Rev. Fred B. Spyker, her pastor.

John Litzelman, died Wednesday morning at his home in Cherry Township at he age of 79 years.
Mr. Litzelman was a highly respected citizen of this community and was well known throughout the county having been engaged in the business of contactor and builder for many years
He is survived by 4 daughters Mrs. E.J. Graff and Miss Amelia Litzelman of Philadelphia. Mrs. James Ruddick of Elmira, and Mrs. Joseph Finan of Albany township; and 5 sons, Charles of Williamsport, William of Towanda, Thaddeus J. of Dushore and Stephen and Vincent at home. Also two sisters Mrs. Louisa Mushno of Jersey Shore and Mrs. Adaline Solinger of Mosier Oregon, two brothers, Michael Litzelman of Sayre and Raphael Litzelman of Cherry township.
Funeral services were held in St. Basil’s church Saturday morning with interment in the family plot in the adjoining cemetery.

Mrs. Josephine Marshall Litzelman of Cherry township passed away early Monday morning, June 17th following a short illness.
She is survived by her husband and the following children: Leo Litzelman of Villa Nova; Lydia, (Sister Emily, of Maryland) Paul, Francis, Charles, Helen and George at home. Three grandchldren, Marie, George Jr, and Gerald Litzelman also four brothers, Anthony Marshall of Ohio, Joseph Marshall of Overton, John and August Marshall of Cherry township.

Paul Joseph Litzelman, 92, of Dushore, died Oct. 31, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Towanda. He was born in Dushore May 21, 1905, a son of Mathias and Josephine Marshall Litzelman.
He attended local schools and St. Basil’s High School in Dushore, but all of his life he was engaged in farming on the family farm in Cherry Township. After retirement from farming, he worked at St. Basil’s Cemetery, Dushore, along with Eugene (Jake) Farrell. He also dug graves for the Finan Brothers of Laddsburg. After this, he was a custodian at St. Basil’s Church. During threes years he lived at Sullivan Terrace, in Dushore, and in 1988 he moved to Dar-Way Nursing Home in Estella.
He was an active member of St. Basil’s Catholic Church, a member of its Holy name Society and its Cemetery Association. He always helped at the annual St. Basil’s picnic on July 4, and for many years prepared the cole slaw for the annual hunters spaghetti dinner in November.
With his brothers, he would volunteer to gather and burn the leaves on the church and cemetery grounds each fall.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Vernon (Helen) Broschart of Forks Township; sisters-in-law, Loretta Litzelman of Dushore and Mary Litzelman of Lansdale. He was predeceased by brothers Leo, George, Francis and Charles; and a sister, Sister Emily Litzelman, I.H.M. of Scranton.
Funeral services were held Nov. 3 from the P. Dean Home Funeral Home, Dushore,, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at his church with Rev. Patrick J. McLaughlin presiding.
Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Raphael Litzelman, died Thursday evening at his home in Cherry township, following a very short illness at the age of 96 years.
Mr. Litzelman was born in Cherry Township, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Matthias Litzelman, who settled on the homestead in 1830, being among the early settlers of Cherry Township.
Mr. Litzelman was one of the oldest men if not the oldest in Sullivan county. He has always been actively engaged in farming, and for many years was one of the leading citizens of Cherry township. He took a very active part in the affairs of the community in which he lived. He held many important offices in the township, serving as school director, tax collector, township treasurer and other offices during his life.
He was instrumental in the organization of the First National Bank at Mildred, being one of the directors of that institution from the beginning.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Fred R. Saxer of Center street, and Mrs. Hannah Taylor of German Street, and son Mattias Litzelman, who resides on the homestead. Twenty grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren also survive.
Mr. Litzelman was the last survivor of a family of fourteen children.
Funeral service was held at St. Basil's church, Monday morning, which was very largely attended.

Mrs. Ralph Litzelman died Monday, January 7th at her home in Cherry township at the age of’ 81

years.  

She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Fred R. Saxer an Mrs. W. C. Taylor of  Dushore and one son, Matthias Litzelman of Cherry township.

Funeral service was held Wednesday morning in St. Basil’s church with interment in the adjoining cemetery.

One sister Mrs. Edward Weisbrod and five brothers, Charles S. Sick, Joseph Sick of Cherry Mills, 

Wendell Sick of Dushore,  William Sick of New Albany and Julius Sick of  Nordmont, also survive.

The funeral was very largely attended.

Stephen Litzelman,            b. 2-7-1877  d. 6-13-1957           Newspaper clipping, 1963

Stephen Litzelman of Dushore R.D., prominent Sullivan County farmer, died suddenly at his home Thursday from a heart attack.

He was born in Cherry Township Feb. 7, 1877, a son of John and Mary Sick Litzelman. He spent his entire life in that area and was engaged in farming. He took a vital interest in area activities.

He was a member of St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, the Holy Name Society, the Sullivan County Wool Association, Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce, and was recently reappointed a director of the Sullivan County R.E.A.

Surviving are two brothers; Charles of  Dushore RD and Thaddeus of Elmira; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Finan of New Albany RD and Mrs. Mary Ruddick  Elmira; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held from the family home Monday with Requiem Mass at St. Basil’s

Church at 9:30. Interment was the adjoining cemetery.

Thaddeus J. Litzelman of 1141 South Main Street, Horseheads, passes away August 16.

Mr. Litzelman was 77 years of age.  He was a retired employee of the Eclipse plant in Elmira and once operated an electrical appliance store in Dushore.  He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Horseheads.

Surviving are two sisters; Mrs. Elizabeth Finan of Dushore and Mrs. Mary Ruddick of Elmira.

High Mass of Requiem was celebrated Aug. 19 at 10 a.m. in St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, with burial in St. Basil’s cemetery.

Joseph Cook Lynch,   b.7-9-1925  d.  6-26-2004                                                            Dailey Review, 6-28-2004

Joseph Cook Lynch, age 78, of Dushore passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 26, 2004, at the home of his son, Vincent Lynch of 107 Simsbury Drive, Ithaca, N.Y. 14850, with his family by his side.
Joe was born in Dushore, on July 9, 1925, a son of the late Vincent Joseph and Emma Cook Lynch.
He graduated from St. Basil's High School, a member of the Class of 1943. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in October 1943 and served in the Philippines Campaign and also in Korea. He was discharged as a staff sergeant in March of 1946.
After the war he attended Wilkes-Barre Business College.
He married the former Marguerite "Peggy" Smith of Dushore, Pa., on June 21, 1947. Peggy predeceased him on April 8, 1984.
Joe was a prominent Sullivan County businessman. He owned and operated North Branch Trucking Co., in the early 1950s. He and Joseph F. Obert of Dushore purchased the former Cain's Dairy, which he operated as Dushore Dairy from 1956 until 1993. Joe bottled milk and delivered dairy products, ice cream and frozen foods, throughout Sullivan County and parts of Bradford and Lycoming counties.
He was a member of St. Basil's Catholic Church, the Dushore Lions Club, American Legion Loyalsock Post No. 996 and the Dushore Fire Company. He was a Scoutmaster for the Dushore Boy Scout troop and a continuing contributor to Troop 48. He also coached Little League baseball. He was a long-time member of the Dushore Borough Council.
After his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his son, Capt. Vincent J. Lynch, U.S. Navy (ret.) and his wife, Susan, of Ithaca, N.Y.; his daughter, Mary Margaret and her husband, Col. Robert T. Guglielmi, U.S. Army at Fort Drum, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Amanda, Patrick and Sarah Lynch and Keith and Bret Guglielmi; a sister and brother-in-law: Mary and J. Bernard Lynch Litzelman of Dushore; a brother-in-law,
Joseph F. Obert of Bellefonte, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Pauline Lynch Coombs of Athens.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 1, at 10 a.m. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Basil's Church, Dushore, with the Rev. Bert S. Kozen, administrator, presiding. Interment will be in the adjoining parish cemetery.
Friends may call on Wednesday, June 30, at the Homer Funeral Home from 6 to 9 p.m.
Graveside memorial services will be accorded by members of Loyalsock Post No. 996 American Legion, Dushore. Members are asked to assemble and pass in review on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

John Michael Jerkes, age 87, of Dushore, PA passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at the Highlands Care Center in Laporte, PA.

John was born on January 1, 1922 in Johnstown, PA.

Surviving: Spouse; Mary Dolores, Son; Raymond Jerkes; Daughter; Mary Rose (Robert) Berfield; grandchildren; Keith Berfield, Janine Berfield and Zachary Jerkes; great-grandson; Logan Berfield.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, May 16, 2009 from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA and was followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA with the Rev. Joseph R. Hornick, his pastor, presiding. Mrs. Helen Karge,  b. 9-12-1912  d. 9-1-2002                                                          Daily Review, 9-3-2002
Mrs. Helen Karge, age 89, of Ringdale, Sullivan County, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002, at home with her family.
Helen was born Sept. 12, 1912, in Cherry Township, a daughter of the late Joseph J. and Elizabeth Harney Farrell. Helen attended St. Basil's School in Dushore. She married Walter Clarence Karge of Ringdale on Nov. 28, 1930. Walter predeceased her on May 13, 1959.
Helen worked for eight years for the former Weldon Manufacturing Co. of Dushore until her husband's death. At that time she took over the management of the family dairy farm. Helen milked, drove tractor and operated the farm until retiring.
Helen was a member of the St. Basil's Catholic Church in Dushore and a member of its former Altar and Rosary Society, now the Catholic Women's Guild.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, W. Douglas Karge, at home, John R. and Cathy Karge of Ringdale, Pa.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Eunice E. and Francis Richart of Dushore and Irene H. Karge, at home; a sister-in-law, Kathryn Farrell of Dushore; grandchildren, Francis Richart Jr. of Dushore, Jennifer Wettlaufer of Mildred, and Jody and Jamie Karge of Ringdale; and several nieces and nephews.
Helen was predeceased by five brothers, John Farrell, who died in action in World War II; Patrick P. Farrell, on Feb. 20, 1990; Edward J. Farrell, on Feb. 23, 1994; Leo P. Farrell, on April 15, 1995; and Frank J. Farrell, on Jan. 24, 1999.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 5, at 9:30 a.m. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral home, 206 Water St., Dushore, and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Basil's Church, Dushore, with the Rev. Michael B. Harris, her pastor, presiding. Interment will be in Peace Cemetery, Dushore.
Friends may call on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. The Catholic Women's Guild will recite the Rosary at 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon at the funeral home.
