Geraldine Cable, wife of Robert Hutchison, is the oldest daughter of the late John Cable and Sheila Hughes. Sheila is a sister of Teresa Alva Hughes, widow of the late Robert Gerard Sweeney. In the early 2000s, his son, Robert Emmett "Bob" Sweeney, began to try to find out more about his relatives in New Zealand. The last time he had seen Geraldine was in May 1956, nearly fifty years ago at that time. Bob, his mother, and Bob's infant brother, Kevin Sweeney, made the long trek by Pan American clipper to New Zealand from their home in upstate New York. In those days, the trip was all by propeller-driven aircraft and took two whole days to accomplish. The trip across the ocean, on the Flying Cloud seemed regal to the Sweeneys. Uniformed butlers and attendants served catered meals on the flights and the crew handed out medals and certificates to passengers crossing the International Date Line for the first time. The final leg landed at the airport in Auckland at night, where arriving guests were greeted with tea and pastries. We traveled by overnight steam engine down the length of the North Island, past Ruapehu and the other volcanoes. It was a magical time for a ten-year old boy from the states! A substantial portion of our visit was spent with the Cables at their home on the North Island. So, it was with great anticipation that Bob opened the picture files shown below and was introduced to Geraldine and her own family.

Robert Hutchison has his own business as an insurance broker and Geraldine is a Business Manager with Air New Zealand. They had just bought and moved into a new house in Auckland at the time these pictures were taken. Robert is an avowed soccer fan and follows the "All Whites", the New Zealand national team.

In 2002, Rebecca, then 22, had just come back from a three month teaching spell in Korea and was working on Hamilton Island off the coast of Australia as a scuba diving instructor. She completed a college degree in marine biology.

At this time, Yvette, age 25, was living in Sydney, Australia, having graduated from college with a double degree in Japanese and Psychology. She had been working in tourism for the Japanese inbound market. Ironically, Bob Sweeney's daughter, Becca Ariella Sweeney, pictured on the main Hughes and Hansby page, also studied Japanese for several years, as well as Russian and Hebrew. Becca works for Bob's company as a business development executive, but hopes eventually to move into international relations. Maybe there is a linguistics bug in the family line!

In February 2007, Geraldine sent another set of wonderful photos of her family, with a focus on the recent wedding of her daughter, Hayley Kim Barclay, to Anthony Farrelly. Hayley is Robert's step-daughter as well. They were married on October 12, 2006 at the Wananavu Resort in Fiji.
