William Sweeney Share Certificates

The share and stock certificates photographed here were found in the estate papers of Roger Sweeney (1914-1998), son of William and Lillie (McIntyre) Sweeney, and also grandson of Rodger and Mary (Sweeney) Sweeney of Wellsville, NY. We are grateful to Kathleen (Sweeney) Leavitt Cragun and her daughters Christy (Leavitt) Peterson and Sheree (Leavitt) Hansen for this contribution to the Sweeney history. The certificates range over the period from 1916-1928. There is also a handwritten listing of these documents, shown at the foot of the page, where either William or someone else in the family wrote out a summary of his holdings, alone and in conjunction with Earl Rogers. A cursory search of the Internet in August 2010 brought up no record of these organizations or remnants of the investment enterprises they funded. However, one can only imagine that, had the shares any currency today, these energy holdings might have considerable value.

Just a reminder...these Sweeneys are related by blood to the same Sweeney family that settled in Sullivan County, PA in the 1840s and whose stories are told throughout the Sullivan County Genealogical Web Page.
