Forkston Cemetery
Forkston
Wyoming County, PA

From Sullivan County, take route 87 north to Forkston. Turn right at the ballpark, go about 1/4 mile until you come to the first road on the left. Go across the bridge and enter the town of Forkston. Turn right across from the Methodist Church onto Bowman Hollow Road, There is a cemetery sign by the road. Cemetery is on the right but the driveway goes up a little hill.

Arnold, Charles

Per Renee Arnold, his great-grandson's wife, on 09/13/03:

There are actually two markers for Charles ARNOLD. I have photos of both his markers. One marker has an inscription for both he and his first wife Christine, the other is a double headstone with information for both Charles ARNOLD and his second wife, Sarah SHOEMAKER.

The marker with wife Christine shows Charles ARNOLD's b./d. dates as 1848 -1924--he was a member of the 143rd Infantry Reg., Company K, during the Civil War, and that data is inscribed on the stone. Christine was born Oct. 17, 185?--last digit unreadable--and she died in 1893. All this is on their stone.

The second gravestone shows Charles ARNOLD b/d dates as 1847-1925, so there is a slight discrepancy, although all my research indicates they were the same person. Sarah SHOEMAKER is identified as "His Wife" on the double stone, and the dates for her lifespan are 1864 - 1937. In this photo, there is a flag placed near the side of the stone with Charles' data...I would assume this is due to his Civil War service. Note that a marker for James ARNOLD, son of Charles and Christine, is also noted on the site.

Per Gery Krewson, his great-great-grandson, on 11/04/04:

The proper spelling of his name was "Mordecai", although it was sometimes spelled "Mordica". He is listed in the 1850 Forkston Township Census as "M. Kruson". I believe Mordecai bought the farm in Windy Valley about 1837 - after migrating from Philadelphia, but I don't know where the deed would be recorded. My lineage from Mordecai is:

Harford Krewson (spelled "Heofford" in the 1850 Census)
Levi Krewson
Cecil Krewson, Sr.
Lyman Krewson
Gery Krewson (me)

Forkston Methodist Church
Forkston, PA
Memorial Dinner Plate
About 1949-1950

Back Side Inscription
Photos Contributed by Carol Brotzman
Note: Carol's daughter, Amanda Brotzman, bought the plate at a rummage sale in the summer of 2004 in Forkston. This is a celebration or memorial plate.. The church had these made to celebrate one of its anniversaries. Considering the plate has a 24 caret gold rim and is "Homer Laughlin" style, Carol suspects the vintage is about 1949-1950, since that is when most of them in that style were made.
