Ellis Cemetery
Sullivan County, PA

Established in 1819
1½ mile west of Rte 487 on Seman(Seamans) Rd., or T367, an extension of LR 1004, approximately 1½ miles west of Lopez. The cemetery is a short distance off a dirt road under the shade of very large hemlock and pine trees, just above the banks of the Loyalsock Creek at the edge of the old "Berwick Turnpike". It is approximately 30 by 40 feet in dimension and surrounded by a four foot stonewall, made from sandstone, and has a small walkway/gateway to enter.

In April 2010, the Sullivan County Historical Society and Museum (SCHS&M) provided an update that includes previously unlisted interments, as well as addtional information on several of the interments that we did have. This information was extracted from current and old records in the possesssion of that organization. We have color coded those entries in crimson, and express our sincere appreciaton for this information to our colleagues at SCHS&M.

We were contacted in February 2011 by Marjorie Cerchio with a detailed assessment of some of the actual and potential transcriptions for this site. Her comments are appreciated, since many of the stones are eroded and hard to read as a result. We have adopted several of her comments and marked them below in maroon. Please direct any objections or further suggestions to Marge at the mail link above with a copy to Bob Sweeney, the site administrator.
