Mrs. Emma Marbaker, (born September 12, 1852) died in the Packer Hospital, June 29, 1940 aged 87 years. Nearly two months ago she fell and cracked a bone in one hip and had been hospitalized every since. Her husband John died in November 1922, since when she has spent most of her time in the home of her brother F. L. (Franklin Lewis) Possinger in this village. Funeral services were held here at the church on Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. Willets, burial at Beaver Meadows. Contributed by Carol Brotzman Emma Singer was the daughter of Elizabeth Huffman and David Singer, however raised by her step father Peter Possinger.
From Leo Bolles diary and obituary info I find Frank Possinger (July 19, 1870 Tannersville - Oct 24, 1956.) Frank married in West Auburn, Pa June 30, 1894 to Ida J Sterling July 20, 1869 - Dec 23, 1960, daughter of Ira and MaryWhitaker Sterling. Children: a daughter Mrs. Edith Hawkins (born Mar 31, 1898), and 3 sons, Eldred (Sept 1, 1900-July 13, 1952 Detroit, Michigan), Ralph and
Esmond. Frank and Ida are buried in Lacey Street Cemetery with his parents Peter (Sept 11, 1832-Dec 14, 1871) and Elizabeth H. Possinger (Apr 22, 1830-Aug 28, 1908.) Frank had a brother Alfred Possinger (Born July 17, 1864.) Frank and Ida shared a double wedding ceremony with his brother Alfred and Hallie James. They also celebrated being married 60 years celebration together.
Historians note: This would account for the hill near Clyde Tribles home being named the Emmie - John Hill.
Ray Marbaker records she married Mr. Williams after John died.

A news paper clipping
Susan G. Marbaker was born in Rhode Island November 30, 1816, and died at her home on Fowler Hill January 3, 1901. Her maiden name was Cottrell. She was a cousin of the late Reverend William H. Olin of the Wyoming Conference, a very prominent and much loved minister. While quite young she came to Pennsylvania with her parents. She was united in marriage with Joseph Marbaker August 20, 1843. For about 55 years they lived together, he dying about four years ago the 25th of March. She was the mother of seven children, three boys and four girls, two dying in infancy. About 50 years ago they purchased the place where both of them died. It was then a dense wilderness. Mr. Marbaker cleared up his farm, and for a half century lived to enjoy it. Not long after their purchase at Fowler Hill, a union church was built at Beaver Meadow, nearby. Mr. And Mrs. Marbaker were deeply interested in the building of this church, and did much toward it. Not far from that time, she and her husband were united with the Wesleyan Methodist Church. Both of them remained faithful members of the same church until called to the church above. The writer, for his first pastorate, was appointed to the field, which included this point. Hence had had the privilege of her acquaintance a number of years ago. She was a woman of true religious life, quiet and unassuming, but kind and true, as a friend and a follower of Jesus. She lived long and witnessed many changes during her stay here. She leaves to friends a glorious legacy; not of money, but of Christian character and life. May those who are left to mourn be comforted by the same grace, which supported and kept her all the way of her earthly journey G.O.B (I assume is the George O. Beers who served at the church from 1873-1875). Contributed by Carol Brotzman, Beaver Meadows church historian
* Historians note: Shortly after Joseph and Susan bought their farm at Fowler Hill the Union church at Beaver Meadows was built. Thus supporting the 1849-1850 time zone for the origin of the church. They were active members in the Wesleyan Methodist church. The land was wilderness when the Marbaker's made their purchase. Her obituary states Joseph enjoyed his land for 50 years. They were the parents of 3 boys and 4 girls, 2 dying in infancy. The infants were probably buried at Fowler Hill. Clyde Trible, a great grandchild resides there on their property at the time of this writing. Clyde' s sister Mae Ross inherited the property from their parents Glenn and Florence Marbaker Trible.
Susan's obituary states she was a cousin of the Elder Rev. William Olin of the Wyoming Conference who was a lawyer before Christ won his heart.
The deed to the land shows they purchased 47 acres July 4, 1856 of Isaac Post. Isaac had purchased in 1824 the land warrants of Timothy Pickering. Joseph paid $200.00 for the virgin land. On March 1, 1859 he purchased from Luther and Harriet Burdick for $350.00 the other 50 acre section of land still occupied by the family which is now sandwiched in between the Jacob Sova properties in Rush and Auburn Township.

Newspaper clipping
Carrie Mclaud, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel McLaud of Silvara was born December 14, 1877. She was married to Charles Roberts, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Roberts of Auburn, Susquehanna County May 04, 1897. The future was bright before them and many fond hopes and plans were cherished for the coming years, Oh, but how suddenly the dearest ties were severed, the fondest hopes were crushed. On June 18, 1903, after an illness of only three days intense suffering the spirit took flight and the home was left desperate. The hearts of fond husband, the parents and little daughter of four years are crushed in this great sorrow. The sympathies of the entire community are extended to them in their sad bereavement. Yet, Oh! What comfort to know that Carrie gave her heart to the Savior in the Revival Meetings at South Auburn under the labors of the Evangelist Mitchell and was ready to go. How comforting to the friends are the words "Thou thou passest through the waters I will be with thee, and through the rivers I shall not overflow thee," etc. The funeral services were held at Silvara June 20, conducted by the Rev J.W. Johnson. A large assembly gathered to pay the last tribute of respect to one so highly respected and so dearly loved by all. The beautiful white casket rested amid a profusion of floral tributes, and friends gazed upon the beautiful young form robed in white as a bride. Internment at Clapper Hill (Beaver Meadows).

AMASA MILLARD MURDERED AT PORT JERVIS
Disputed Timber Line Causes Murder of Amasa Millard of Clapper Hill Amasa Millard of Clapper Hill, employed by Wm. Ellsworth of Wyalusing, on a timber job at Port Jervis, Pa. was shot & instantly killed last Thursday, Dec. 5, 1918, by an enraged Jew, named Kresky, who had an imaginary grievance over a timber line. The timber in question was purchased some time ago by Mr. Ellsworth, and the lumbering off of it was put in charge of Mr. Millard. Kresky soon caused trouble by insisting the men were getting over the line and at various times threatened the men with violence if they did not clear out. To make sure all was right, Mr. Ellsworth had the lines re-run apparently to the satisfaction of Kresky. However, on Thursday the Jew appeared in the woodsarmed with a rifle loaded with buckshot and ordered the men off the land, and being informed they were on their own tract attacked Mr. Millard, who warded off the gun with a cant hook he had in his hands. Following this Kresky ran off a few paces, and wheeling suddenly shot at Millard point blank, the bullets penetrating the heart and severed the jugular vein in the neck. Kresky was later captured and taken to Port Jervis, N.Y. where he is awaiting trial on the charge of murder. It is said that Kresky had at different times threatened to shoot children who went to a spring on his land for a drink, and the men in the woods were of the opinion his threats to them were merely bluff.

Auburn Twp. - Albert Otis, living in Tuscarora Twp., Bradford Co., just across the line from Auburn twp., took his team and drove to Rummerfield a week ago Friday. There he put out his team and took the train for Towanda, where he transacted some business with A. W. Little, Esq. He also visited his brother-in-law and left at about 2 a.m. to catch a train back to Rummerfield. It was known that he failed to catch the passenger train, as he was late in getting to the depot. This is the last seen of him. Foul play is suspected. He formerly lived in Susquehanna County, near Rush. He had on his person $15 or $20 in money and a check signed by L. L. Ervine, of West Auburn, for $5. It is hoped some clue may be found through this check.
Two arrests have been made: Ernest Pickett, a brother-in-law, of Towanda was put through the third degree, but was allowed to go, but will be held under surveillance. Chas. Warner, of Towanda, but formerly of W. Auburn, was examined and held under bond. Both are said to be of intemperate habits. The general supposition is that Otis never got across the river, but was murdered for money supposed to be on his person.

Silvara, Bradford Co. - The remains of Adelbert R. Otis, who disappeared from his home on January 6, were found in the Susquehanna river, at a point a short distance below the West Pittston borough line. The night Otis disappeared parties at Standing Stone heard loud cries for help coming from the direction of the river, but no investigation seems to have been made. He was 37 years of age, formerly resided at Rush, and is survived by a wife and 5 children.

These boys drowned in Whitney's Pond while sledding. They were sons of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Owens. The "s" was dropped from their last name afterwards. The funeral was from the church.
From a Mae Fassett Clipping
Two boys fall through the ice at the Whitney Pond, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Owens (Yes it has Owens), Bodies recovered by the Laceyville firemen December 22, (1952) There was a thin layer of ice. The pond was near their home on Fowler Hill, John Owens 15, and Paul Owens 10 had taken their sleds and gone to the Max Whitney Farm pond, another brother Laverne was with them. An older sister had gone and tried to get them to go home with her but they wanted a few more slides down hill. LaVerne was so terrified seeing the accident, and disappearing below the surface of the water he ran right past several farms which might have offered help to get home. The Father summoned help from the Laceyville Fire Company which responded with a truck, put ladders on the ice which was only 1 1/2 inches thick where the 15 year old was, and 10 feet deep. The ladder broke through, but Ed Pickett held on, the bodies had not floated and were recovered with gabbling hooks and pike poles 50 feet from the shore. Two sleds were found some distance from the hole. It is not known if both went under at the same time, or if one tried to help the other. Laverne was in shock. The grieving father had to be enticed from the hole as the ice was to thin. This was when the fire Company arrived and the drowning occurred about 6 o'clock. The bodies were recovered about 7:30. Sheldon's Funeral parlor of Laceyville was in charge of the service. There are ten other children in the family. They were buried in Beaver Meadows Cemetery Tuscarora Township Bradford County, PA

*** Potter, Ridley (Riley) died April 18, 1886 age 82 (1804)
Loraina Palmer died April 21, 1886 age 79 (1807)
The dates are from the obituary in the REPORTER JOURNAL
They married September 5, 1833
There is no record of them in the cemetery plot book, however records found in the Montrose Historical Society support they are buried here. The REPORTER JOURNAL on May 6, 1886 carried their obituaries, and the Commemorative Biographies of Northeast Pennsylvania published in 1900 has a biography on Thomas Potter that states his parents were buried at Clapper Hill 1885. The year was in error. They died one week apart. The article records
the following family members; Isaac who served in the Civil War and was killed July 2, 1863, at Gettysburg, Mary the wife of Henry Hall, Thomas, Abraham was killed in the Civil War while serving in the Army, Alice who was Mrs James Bunnell, and Ester. Ester died Sept 18, 1864 age 13 years 11 months and 28 days. She was buried in the Stevensville Cemetery. Her brother Thomas, and his wife Sally, who died at the age of 61 years March 11, 1893 were buried there when they passed. Thomas Potter, the son of Riley enlisted at Towanda in the Co. I 51st P. V. I. under Col Thomas Parker. He married May 1, 1867 to Mrs. Sally Sharer Williams, daughter of William and Elizabeth Featherbay Sharer. Sally was the widow of Francis Williams. Thomas was buried in the Stevensville Cemetery with no stone. His military standard is adjacent to his wife's stone. He was born May 1, 1839. I have no death date.
Historians note: Riley W and Isaac Potter enlisted together at Towanda, Pennsylvania August 22, 1862. Riley deserted April 15, 1863. After all he was an old man, and it was a lot of stress to handle. His son Abram was killed during this time he was absent without leave. Riley reenlisted and served his second hitch in the 57th Regt. Pa Vol. A unit made up of old men and deserters. He enlisted in the 57th May 28, 1863, not long after Abram died. After the war Riley returned home. Riley was listed in the Pennsylvania 1870 Auburn Township census, age 66 born New York, his wife Lorania, age 56 born New York.
Abram Potter, son of Riley served in Company A, 151st Pa Vol.. He died at Windmill Point, Virginia May 10, 1863 from wounds received in battle.
The son Isaac R Potter was a casualty of the Civil War at age 29, killed at Gettysburg, July 2, 1863. At one point both father and son served in the 141st infantry, Pa. Vol. Isaac
received the "BADGE OF HONOR".
The brothers may be buried near their sister, Mary Hall in lot 134 This would be placing the Civil War Casualties in relative proximity with the Culver boys on the upper side.
No records record where any of this family is buried at Beaver Meadows except for a broken headstone for Mary Hall and Luella, her child.
