Stonycreek
Township
Stonycreek Township was incorporated in
1792. The township was first settled in 1762 and was formed from the
Quemahoning Township. Stony Creek is one of the six original townships in
Somerset County. All old records seem to spell it Stony Creek, but
it is now spelled Stonycreek.
Stonycreek Township is located in the
mid-section of the county. It is bounded to the north by Shade Township;
to the west by Somerset Township; to the south by Brothersvalley Township;
and to the east by Allegheny Township.
The main Borough of Stonycreek Township
is Shanksville which was first settled in 1829 and was incorporated in 25
Jan 1913.
