Philbena LAPE was born 30-Dec-1818 in Brothersvalley Twp. She was the daughter of John Nicholas LAPE and Catherine SHUNK. She married Samuel LEAR born 30-Apr-1819 in Somerset Co. I am searching for the parents of Benjamin John NICHOLSON. He was born in Fayette or Somerset Co PA in 1832. He married Margaret KEEFER. They had five children: Mary Ann, Irvin, Lucy, Weldon, and Benjamin John Nicholsn Jr. Pvt Benjamin Nicholson was in Company B, 16th Regiment, Pa Cavalry. He was captured by the Rebs June 14th, 1864 near White House Va. He was a prisoner of war, held for a short time at Libby Prison. He was then moved to Andersonville Prison in Georgia where he died of Dysentery on August 24, 1864. He is buried in grave # 5595. His name is listed in Bates Pa Volunteers 1861-1865. If you are a descendant of Benjamin and Margaret and have information of Benjamins parents please contact me. I believe he is a brother of my gg grandfather, Simon C R Nicholosn.

I have a letter from my grandfather to my g-grandmother dated July 26,1909 from a camp in Somerset. It is difficult to read the writing, so I am not sure what the name of the camp is. It looks like Camp Hunt. My grandfather was 32 years old at this time, and I am wondering what he would be doing in a military camp at this age. Is there anyone who can shed some light on this Camp? I am searching for information on the family of George ZIMMERMAN and Mary Ann BITNER. George was born in 1812 and Mary Ann was born in 1809 in Somerset Co. They are my gg grandparents and I have very little information on them. I don't have anything on the parents of Mary Ann but I suspect the parents of George may be Jacob ZIMMERMAN and Elizabeth GIBLER, but this has not been confirmed.
