COMBAT PILOT EUGENE BAUWIN MISSING IN ACTION IN KOREA

Capt. Eugene Bauwin, Thiel College graduate who left a position as personnel director for the R. D. Werner Company in 1951 to return to military duty, hs been reported missing in action in Korea.

Notice that he is missing was received by his wife, the former Shirley Corll, daughter of Mrs. Bess Corll, Sandy Lake. Mrs. Bauwin and a daughter now reside at Dayton, Ohio, where Capt Bauwin previously had been stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Field.

Capt. Bauwin, a veteran of World War II and reservist who was called back to duty, had been in Korea since Nov. 1 and was pilot of a fighter-bomber based at Seoul. He had written letters daily to his wife, the last received being dated Jan. 9.

Born in Ford City, he spent most of his early years in Sandy Lake where he was graduated from the Sandy Lake High School.  After his college career had been interrupted by service in European and Pacific war theaters in World War II, he received a degree from Thiel in 1947.

After having been employed by Eastern Airlines and Talon, Inc., at Meadville, Mr. Bauwin became personnel director for the Werner company on May 8, 1950, and continued in that post until Sept. 4, 1951.

Active in Community Chest and civic campaigns, he had been named to head the 1951-52 drive of the Greater Greenville Community Chest but was called to service before the opening of the campaign. (Source: The Record-Argus, Greenville, PA, ,Wed., Jan. 14, 1953, pg. 1)
