Greenville and Mercer which new formed and pastoral charge, after the father had been transferred to Shenango.  Call was presented and accepted at a meeting of the Associate Synot in Washington, Pa., May 1841, and the pastor was ordained and installed in September of the same year.

"Anderson" McLean, as he was familiarly known, was born in Shenango, Crawford County, Pa., April 5th, 1816.  His early education was in his own house under the tutorage of Dr. James Rodgers.  His academic education was in a classical school taught by Rev. John Gamble in Jamestown.  He entered the sophomore class of Jefferson college in 1833 where he graduated in 1836.  He had charge of the Meadville academy for one year during the time of this entering college and graduation.  He entered the theological
