Types of Casualties
KIAKilled in Action - persons who were killed at the front or by enemy action in the rear areas and prisoners of war, killed by air bombardment of prison camp, or being shot while escaping.
DOWDied of Wounds - persons who were wounded in battle and later died.
DOIDied of Injuries - persons who suffered fatal battle injuries, in combat or in combat areas, and died in a line-of-duty status.
DNBDied, non battle - other line-of-duty non-battle deaths: sickness, illness, homicide, suicide, accidents outside combat areas and training and maneuver deaths.
FODFinding of Death - Individuals who were determined to be dead under Public Law 490.
