Joseph Hill married Margaret Dickson 8 April 1869 in New Vernon, Mercer, PA; They moved to Freesoil, Mason.

Joseph and Margaret Hill went to Michigan by covered wagon in 1876 with three young children, Emma, Leonard and Harry.  

A fourth child, Ethyl Blanche, was born in Michigan. From US Archives documents: On 22 Mar 1915, Jos Hill gives birthdates for himself and children, marriage date, and his birthplace, in answer to inquiry from Dept of Interior.  They were married by John McClure, "justus of the piece".

Joseph's personal description: 5'9 1/2", light complexion, Blue eyes, Light hair, Farmer.
