In my last, I noticed
the fact that Esq. Davis was affected by paralysis. He died last
Thursday, at two o'clock p.m. June 26th, 1884, aged 69 years.
Charles
Davis was born in Newport England, came t this country with his
father's family, at 15 years of age, and worked as a printer in New
York City till injury to his eyes compelled him to give up the case and
resort to trade. He followed the mercantile business in that city for a
time, and thence removed to Warren, O., where he engaged in farming,
which he soon relinquished to again enter the mercantile business in
Sheakleyville, Pa., but soon went to Turnersville, Pa., where he lived
for twenty years. Eleven years ago last spring, he came to Jamestown,
where his business has steadily enlarged. e was Justice of the Peace
for many years, both in Turnersville and Jamestown, and all who had
causes tried before him, know that his decisions were governed b an
inflexible regard for right. He was a member of the U. P. Church of
this place, honorable in business, and in all his dealings he was
eminently honest and exactly just. He leaves his wife, two daughters
and a son, Mr. John Davis, with whom all who knew the deceased regret
his loss. E. Y. E.
