Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, July 21, 2001, for William A. Scott of Warren Sharon Road, Brookfield, formerly of Orchard Street, Sharon. He passed away at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday (July 18, 2001) in his residence. He was 78.

Born Jan. 18, 1923, in Sharon, he was a son of the late Abner and Alice Whalen Scott.

He attended parochial grade school in Youngstown and was a 1942 alumnus of Sharon High School. He retired in 1983 from the labor gang in the Blooming Mill at the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant, where he worked for 33 years.

Mr. Scott was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Sharon; the Sharon Steel Retiree's Club; and SOAR, which is affiliated with the United Steelworkers' Union.

A lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Shenango Valley Post 1338, Sharon, he was a decorated U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He served with the 11th Armored Division in the European Theater, which was under the command of Gen. George S. Patton. He also served as an honor guard at Gen. Patton's funeral in Luxembourg, Germany.

Mr. Scott was a recipient of the Bronze Star, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal.

He enjoyed woodworking, cross-word puzzles and spending time with his family at their camp in Tylersburg, Pa.

On April 19, 1947, he married the former Mary K. Vendemia in St. Bernadette Church, Masury. She survives him at home. He also leaves one daughter, Mrs. Charles "Butch" (Kathy Marie) Donaldson, Masury; one son, William J. Scott and his wife Dawn, Brookfield; one brother, James Scott, Reynolds; and three grandchildren, Cindy L. Scott, Buffalo, N.Y.; Kevin Donaldson and his wife Alicia, Willoughby, Ohio; and Bruce Donaldson, Nashville, Tenn.

    Service: Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday (7-21-01) in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 370 Spruce Ave., Sharon, with the Rev. Anthony Francis Spilka, Order of Friars Minor Conventual, as celebrant.

    Burial: Brookfield Township Cemetery with full military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Shenango Valley Post 1338, Sharon.
