W.T. Burns Dies 9 Weeks
Before His 100th Birthday
Whitfield Troy Burns, who would have been 100 years old this April 10, died at 7:45 o'clock yesterday morning in a hospital. He was the father of
Mrs. R. D. Pringle, 305 N. Franklin St. Having spent two winters with the Pringles, he was known to many in Titusville.
He lived the longest of a family that was noted for long lives. One sister lived to be 93 and another 92.
Mr. Burns, a direct descendant of John Morton, a Pennsylvania signer of the, Declaration of Independence, was born in Mercer County on April 10. 1856, a son of
Mr. and Mrs. William Morrow Burns.
He had spent most of his life in French Creek Township in Mercer County
where be operated a farm He also taught music at the singing school. In
former years and later was an insurance salesman.

Mr. Burns was a member of the Methodist Church,
the Odd Fellows and the Masons. He was a great reader and loved to
write letters to the many members of his family. His mind was always
clear and he seldom worried about anything.
James Burns,
great-grandfather of Mrs. Pringle, was born in Iniskein, county seat of
Fermariah County In Ireland. His father was a Scotsman who was sent to
Ireland on a mission for the King. He married there and three children
were born to them, one of them James.
James Burns came to Philadelphia as a young man where he married
Mary Morton Morrow, daughter of John Morton,
a signer of the Declaration of Independence. From Westmoreland County
they moved to Mercer County. Eight children were born to them, one of
them, William Morrow, being the grandfather of Mrs. Pringle.
Mr. and Mrs. William Morrow Burns had 12 children, two by a first marriage. All were long lived.
Whitfield Troy Burns' sister Jane died at 93;
Nettie at 92; Clark at 89;
Kate at 80; John and Homer at 78.
Mr. Burns attended Edinboro State Teachers College and two of his sisters were graduates of Grove City College.
He was married to Sarah Jane Fetterolf of Franklin who died Dec, 29, 1944.
Besides Mrs. Pringle, there are two daughters,
Mrs. Jack Mumford of Little Cooley and Mrs. Nellie Peck of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; a son,
Karl Burns of Cuyahoga Falls, 0.; 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock In the
Graham Funeral Home in Sheakleyville. Burial will be in Deer Creek
Cemetery in French Creek Township, Mercer County.
