RETIRED COAST GUARD OFFICER DIES MONDAY

Franklin, July 11 - Wayne A. Cooper, 48, of 1119 Elk Street, a veteran of 20 years service with the U.S. Coast Guard, died at 1:57 a.m. today in the Franklin Hospital.

He had been a patient at the hospital since July 1.
The son of John W. and Effie Bromley Cooper, he was born in Oil City on May 20, 1907.

He spent the early part of his life in Oil City where he attended school. Subsequently, he studied electrical engineering at Cincinnati University and the Coast Guard Academy of New London, Conn., where he received his B.S. degree in engineering.

He continued in the Coast Guard as an instructor and prior to WWII was assigned to the intelligence department as Chief Warrant Officer. During World War II he served as chief electrical engineer with the Coast Guard, serving in the European, Antarctic and Pacific theatres of war. He was the recipient of a citation signed by former President Truman. He retired from the Coast Guard in June 1947.

Mr. Cooper was a member of the First Methodist Church of Franklin; Petrolia Lodge No. 363; F. and A. M.; Venango Lodge of Perfection, Oil City; and the New Castle Consistory.

He is survived by his widow, the former Ruth E. Judge, whom he married in 1952; a daughter, Susan Eilene, at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Cooper of Oil City; a brother, Kenneth B. Cooper of Oil City; and a sister, Mrs. Harold C. Frisbee of Meadville.
