  John Irons

John Irons, of Newton Falls, Ohio, died Saturday evening, February 17 [1900], after a two weeks’ severe illness.  He was born in Pittsburgh, May 14, 1831, of Irish parentage, his parents having emigrated to this country in 1820.  His father died in 1831, leaving his mother and two small children.  By her own economy, industry and frugality she reared and kept the two boys until they became of age.  In 1840 the family came to Hubbard and resided with Dr. Mitcheltree on his farm.  His mother died in 1875.

John Irons was married to Lucy Patterson, of Sharon July 4, 1861, and resided here until moving to Windham, Ohio, in 1883, removing to Newton Falls in 1898.  In 1859, while in search of health, he made a journey to Pike’s Peak, Colorado; traveling the distance overland and encountering many experiences in a then comparatively new country.

Private funeral services were held at his late residence Monday, February 19.  Burial was in Newton Falls cemetery.  He is survived by his wife and one brother, who, with many sorrowing friends, mourn a great loss, for he was loved and respected by all who knew him.
