Mercer County native had sisters living here
MIFFLINTOWN, Pa. -- Gerald F. Brown,
Winter Haven, Fla., formerly of Mercer County and Mifflintown, expired at 4:15 a.m. Sunday, June 17, 2001, in the family home in Mifflintown. He was 86.
Mr. Brown was born Jan. 6, 1915, a son of the late William E. and Christina Jennings Brown of Mercer County.
After 40 years of owning and operating Brownie's Restaurant & Tavern in Mifflin, he retired and bought a home in Winter Haven.
Before he retired, Mr. Brown was active in forming a committee and served as president of the organization to build a Catholic church in Mifflintown, the present St. Jude Church. Now the church has a new building fund committee to accommodate the large attendance.
Mr. Brown belonged to the Knights of Columbus in Mifflintown for the past 50 years. He also had a life membership in Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1637 in Mercer.
Mr. Brown was an avid golfer and a great fan of Notre Dame sports.
Surviving are: six children, Gerald F. Brown Jr., Mifflintown; Patricia Spier Ammer, Daniel C. Brown and Thomas M. Brown, all of the Denver area; Linda L. Epley, Carlisle, Pa.; and Christina Phipps of the family home in Mifflintown; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Ellen Karr, Sharpsville; and K. Louise Staunch, Hermitage.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John W. Brown of Newport Beach, Calif.
A Mass of Christian burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday (6-20-01) in St. Jude Church, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Lawrence Coakley and the Rev. John Rocco as concelebrants. Burial was in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.
