5- Thomas Tanyhill

 Born: 1837 Williamsport, Lycoming, PA

Served in the regular army for 5 years, served 3 years and 3 months in the rebellion in the 11th Pennsylvania Volunteers,and 6th Regular Calvary.

Died: at Reading, PA.

Possibly named after the Rev. Thomas Tanyhill, from their city who served  in the 1830's.

Served 3 months in the 11th Pa. Vol., three years in the 6th Regular Calvary, and was Captain of Company IT, sixth colored Calvary, at the close of the Civil War.

Worked as a “Hosteler” (Inn Keeper) (1870 census)

He was the Inn Keeper at the Williamsport Hotel (Andrew H. Roat paper 6-17-73)

Was called an Obscure person by Andrew H. Roat     (A. H. R. Paper June 17, 1873)

Married: Sarah Jane Buck Halsey (Widow of James C. Halsey)

on August 21, 1866 in Milton, Northumberland, PA (adoption papers of Halsey children)

Lived in Williamsport 2nd ward in 1870 with wife, children & Halsey children.

Died: Monday April 21, 1873 age of 32 (Obituary 4-22-73 Gazette& Bulletin)

Funeral was at the home of his mother, Harriet.

Buried: Wed. April 23, 1873. Williamsport Washington Blvd. Cemetery lot 273, Williamsport, Lycoming , PA.

Andrew H. Roat adopted the Halsey children when James Elliott and Sarah died. (Adoption papers of Halsey children)
