Nanticoke No. 1 Mine

I believe was taken at the Nanticoke No. 1 Mine sometime prior to the disaster of December 18, 1885 when a collapse and in-rush of water killed 26 miners. The young man on the right holding the mule is my grandfather, Miles LeRoy Davenport (1869 - 1932) of Nanticoke. He had been injured the day before and was not at the mine the day of the disaster. He never went back to work at the mines, he finished high school and went on to earn a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at Cornell College.
