ON THE TRAIL OF OUR ANCESTORS
Submitter's Notes:
The paper is 17 and 1/2" by 22" and on the front side of the document
is the deed of George GRUMBINE to Herman RISTENBATT. On
the backside, written lengthwise over the entire bottom half, is the deed
of Herman RISTENBATT to Henry HAUER. On the top half of the
backside is the title- Deed George Grumbine and Mary his Wife, etc.
There is no volume number or page, as it apparently was not recorded.
As to the history mentioned in the deed, that pertains to the larger tract
of land (66 acres and 34 perches). Jacob
MILEY, mentioned as Jacob MEILY in this deed, had a few tracts of
land warranted. The date mentioned in the deed says 28 Jan. 1788 and
that is the patent date when Jacob MILEY apparently settled on his own
land, as he was the one who took out the warrant on 280 acres of land
in Bethel Township. The warrant date is 10 Sept. 1787 and the Survey
Date is 1 Nov. 1787. Patent number is P-12-169 and the tract was called
Miley's Delight. Appearing on this deed is the actual signature of George
GRUMBEIN (signed in German), and the actual signature of
Herman RISTENBATT. Both of the wives made their mark. When
Herman RISTENBATT sold the land in 1839, there is a witness whose
last name is illegible. His surname is George (written in German script).
Herman RISTENBATT was married to Margreta Rebecca
SCHAD, daughter of Jacob SCHAD(SHORT) and Juliana
WURTERBERGER. For more information on Herman
RISTENBATT, read the article at:
