Mrs. Catherine Welsh/Welch, aged 69, wife of Thomas Welsh died at the family home on Wilson Avenue January 5, 1929, following a brief illness. She was born in Butler County in September of 1859 to William and Effie Jane Ralston Gardner. She spent most of her life in New Castle and was well known throughout the city.

Besides her husband, she leaves daughters; Mrs. Anthony Nene, Mrs. Frank Valienci, Mrs. Joseph Preisel, and Mrs. Edward Heaney; brothers Loyola and Francis Xavier Gardner; sister Mrs. Mary Carson, all of this city. Interment in St. Mary's cemetery.

The burial took place January 8th. Solemn high mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. F.F. O'Shea assisted by Rev. Fr. Francis S. Clifford and Rev. Fr. Dudley Nee. Pallbearers were Clem Gardner, G. Gardner, Fred Nene, Joseph Carson, Miles and Lee Gardner.
