Mrs. Bessie Rusu, 84, of Ashley Place Nursing Home, died of heart failure Thursday morning after an illness of several months. She was born Jan. 26, 1903 in Kenton, TN to Samuel and Charlotte Dover Johnson. She moved to New Castle in 1907 and to Youngstown, Ohio in 1944. Her husband, the Rev. George Rusu, whom she married Aug. 12, 1920, died June 24, 1983. Mrs. Rusu leaves seven sons; Samuel of Youngstown, Robert of Canfield, David of Lowellville, Daniel of Madison, Wisc., George Jr. and Benjamin of Largo, FL and Donald of Tulsa, OK; eight daughters, Mrs. Bea Van Slack of Boardman, Mrs. Florence Altman of New Castle, Mrs. Esther Connolly and Mrs. Mary Yurcovich of Youngstown, Mrs. Ruth Maier of Liberty, Mrs. Jane Boano of Poland, Mrs. Jean Pantalone of Euclid and Mrs. Diane Zents, a missionary on the Ivory Coast of Africa; two sisters , Mrs. Beulah Choco of New Castle and Mrs. Bea Fehrenbach of Warren, PA; three brothers, Lucius Johnson of Wampum, PA, Sidney Johnson of Shippensburg, PA and Leon Johnson of West Palm Beach, FL, 58 grandchildren and 69 great-grandchildren. A son, Cornelius, died in 1925.
