Widely Known Hickory Township Man Succumbs to a Lingering Illness
At his residence in Hickory township, near Eastbrook, Connelly McConahy, one of Lawrence county's widely known residents, died Friday morning at 9 o'clock, after a protracted illness. Death was caused by cancer, from which he had suffered for three years his condition becoming much worse within the past couple of months.
Mr. McConahy was 62 years, 3 months and 29 days old. He was born in Hickory township, this county, and had lived within its borders all his life. In politics he was a Democrat,, always taking an active interest in political affairs. He was appointed court crier by Judge W. E. Porter, and had held the office until the March term or court, this year. He was a member of the Eastbrook M.E. church, and was a man of upright character, who had hundreds of friends.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Josephine McConahy, and four sons, Charles of Juneau, Alaska, Lester of Seattle, Joseph and Alfred at home; also two daughers, Mrs. Edward Pettit of Juneau, Alaska, and Mrs. John Martin of Washington township. Besides these his mother, Mrs. Jennie McConahy of Hickory township survives, and three brothers, John G. McConahy, county commissioner; William G. of Hickory township, and James M. of Hickory township, with two sisters, Miss Mary Jane and Miss Lizzie McConahy at home.
The services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and the funeral was perhaps the largest ever held in that vicinity. So many friends and realives gathered for the services that the house was entirely inadequate and the people were seated on the lawn surrounding the house, the minister standing on the veranda.
Rev. Taylor of the Eastbrook M.E. church conducted the services and music was furnished by the church choir. Many beautiful flowers were sent by friends of the deceased.
Acting as pallbearers were George Arrow, J.H. Pontius, F.S. Patterson, Alex Black, T.W. Houston and R.L. McCreary. The interment was in the Eastbrook M.E. cemetery.
