G. W. HECKATHORN.
G. W. Heckathorn, aged 77 years died at his home, 312 Sycamore Street
Sunday evening at 6:30 following a lingering illness.
Mr. Heckathorn was born in Lawrence County April 4, 1844, the son of
Michael and Mary Roher Heckathorn and was a veteran of the Civil War,
having enlisted in Butler County February 19, 1864 at the age of 20
years with Co. E 100th Pa. Volunteers Infantry, 9th A. C.
He took part in the engagement at the Wilderness, Spottsylvania Court
House, North Anna River, Cold Harbor, Front of Petersburg June 17, 1864
and siege of Petersburg where he was injured in one of his feet
requiring its amputation. He remained in the hospital at Washington,
D.C. until he was discharged July 19, 1865.
Mr. Heckathorn was a member of the Church of God and is survived by his
wife, Catherine Heckathorn and one stepson, McCleland Fox and one
adopted daughter, Miss Lizzie Conners.
Funeral services will be held from his late home Tuesday, February 7 at 1 p.m.
