Killed on Picket Duty.
We are pained to state that Hiram E. Fulkerson, son of Mr. Lewis Fulkerson, of Union township, in this county, was killed by a rebel sharp-shooter while on picket duty on the 17th near Petersburg, Va. He was shot in the head and killed instantly. Was a member of Company A 76th Regiment Pa. Vols., about 21 years of age, and a single man. He had been in the service almost three years and was a brave soldier, and was much beloved by his brothers in arms. Peace to his remains.
Capt. Ferguson in his official announcement of his death, says: "In the loss of Hiram I have lost one of my best men, and one I loved as a brother. He had friends throughout the regiment."
