William Mitcheltree Clingan

WILLIAM CLINGAN

An old and well known resident of Leesburg, died last night at 11 o'clock, after a long period of illness during which he had been patient sufferer. The deceased was born in Ireland in 1809 and has been living at Leesburg for 20 years. He was employed carrying mail to the W. N. Y. & P. station for 15 years and during that time never missed but 3 trips. Funeral Thursday morning at 11 o'clock from family residence, Interment at Leesburg cemetary.

LEESBURG;

Owing to the inclemency of the wether the funeral of William Clingan an aged and respected citizen of this place was poorly attended. Rev. McClelland of Grove City, conducted the services, and a more eloquent sermon bearers never listened to.

William H. Clingan, who died at his home in Leesburg, Mercer county, March 14, was born in County Farmanah, Irland, May 22, 1810. He emigrated with his mother, brother and sister to this country in the year 1818. He married at the age of 21 to Miss Martha Hilands, of near West Middlesex, two sons and four daughters blessed their union. His wife died several years ago, and he was again married to Mrs. Catherine Stevenson, who together with his two sons survive him, his daughters having preceded him to that land from whence no traveler ever returns. He was at one time extensively engaged in stock buying, at which he made quite a fortune, but bad investments ________his fortune.

He at one time resided in Volant, where he had a number of friends. He ownned the Volant Flouring mills, which he operated for some time. He has resided in Leesburg for 20 years, 15 of which he carried the mail from Leesburg----station--to Leesburg. He was stricken with malignant erysipelas about four years ago, and has been a patient, but terrible sufferer ever since, and was released from his suffering by the angel of death.
