Former Idlewild Drive resident Harvetta R. Black, 97, of Blarnetstone Personal Care Home, Mundys Corner, Pa., died at 8:25 p.m. June 28, 2005, in the personal care home.
Born Dec. 5, 1907, in Harrisville, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Harvey G. and Luella Bortz Gerlach.
She was married to James Earl Black. He died June 17, 1950.
Mrs. Black retired from the former St. Francis Hospital, where she worked in the laundry department.
She was a member of AARP.
Mrs. Black was named Honorary Grandmother of the Year by the Shenango Girl Scouts in 1976. Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Ida Davis of New Castle, Clarissa Arkwright of Holiday, Fla., and Cheryl and Gerald Fox of Vinco, Pa.; a brother, Burdette "Bud" Gerlach of Mercer; 26 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Luella Becky Lewis; a son, Darrell "Buzz" Black; four brothers, Irwin Gerlach, Alton Gerlach, Albert Gerlach and James Gerlach; and three sisters, Verla Kelley, Pauline McAnallen and Geneva Baxter.
Visitation is 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Turner-Myers Funeral Home, 208 N. Jefferson St. A service will be conducted at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. Pastor Darrin Abraham of Gardner Chapel Assembly of God Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
