I am researching a rifle that has been "handed down" to us from my
Father-in-law.It is a "long gun"----believing it to be a Penn. Long gun.My
husbands parents are from Blairsville and the Derry area.My Father-in-law said the family
has lived there for as long as he can remember. He is 75. The marking on
top of the barrel is M.Ringle.A gentleman who has done some "preservation"work
to the gun said that is the name of the maker.I found the name Matthias Ringle on the 1830
census.I need to find out if he was a gunsmith. We are trying to date the gun. This name was
not on the 1820 census, and this is the first it appeared.Any help is greatly appreciated.
