Joseph VanDruff was born in Mercer County, Illinois, February 8, 1826.He came to Jefferson County, Kansas, in 1868. Died December 9, 1901.Buried in Wild Horse cemetery, nearMcLouth, Kansas. He married Eliza Jane Eberhart, who was born February1, 1835. Died at Oskaloosa,Kansas, in 1918. Buried in Wild Horse cemetery. To this union sixchildren were born: Joshua, Mary, JamesWesley, Ulysses Grant, Kathora and Eldora.
Joshua VanDruff was born in 1854, died in 1911. Never married.
Mary was born in Rock Island, Illinois, March 28, 1857. Died March 21,1936, at Oskaloosa, Kansas. She married Wilbur F. Leech in 1874. He wasa brother of Agnes Leech, wifeof Mr. Amos McLouth. Wilbur F. Leech was born December 2, 1852, died in1928 at Oskaloosa. He was bornin Monroe County, Michigan. He
was a teacher in Wild Horse School, Clerk of the District Court,Probate Judge, Deputy Sheriff, and later in the insurance business.Mary A. Leech and Wilbur F. Leech had sevenchildren: Addie, Ella, James, Effa, Amos H., Alma and Ray E. Fourchildren: Addie, Ella, James and Effa died inchildhood and are buried in Wild Horse cemetery.
Amos H. Leech was born June 25, 1875. Married Edna Crandall, who wasborn May 7, 1884, at Nortonville, Kansas. She was a school teacher andtaught in Nortonville, andOskaloosa, Kansas. Amos H. was a lawyer and abstracter. He was a 33rddegree Mason, sang in the Shriner Quartet inLeavenworth, Kansas, also the quartet in the Presbyterian Church,Oskaloosa. He was County Commissioner 15 yearsin Jefferson County, Kansas. He died March 20, 1935. To this union fourchildren were born: Amos, Jr.,William C., Jeannette, and Ruth.
Amos H. Leech, Jr. was born October 1, 1913. Married Eva Lambert in1941. Has two daughters, Sue, born January 4, 1942, and Joan, bornJuly, 1945, deceased.
William C. Leech was born July 24, 1915. He is an attorney residing inOskaloosa, Kansas. Married Betty Wright in 1948. Has two children,William Wright, born September 6,1951 and Elizabeth Ann, born March 10, 1955.
Jeannette was born November 15, 1918. Married John H. Ledbetter, Jr.,M.D. in 1942. Adopted two daughters, Mary Jay, born September, 1948,and Virginia, born August 23, 1950, andhad a son of their own, John H. Ledbetter, III, born July 25, 1955.Jeannette died June 14, 1965.
Ruth was born May 16, 1923. Married William O. Finley in 1942. Has twochildren, Mary Diane, born December 1, 1945, and Stephen William, bornMarch 31, 1949.
Alma Leech was born March 16, 1884. Married Frank B. Mayer. Alma diedFebruary 8, 1949 in Whittier, California. One daughter, Mary Catherine.Mary Catherine married RobertAllee. Has two children, Robert Michael, and Nichole. Nichole ismarried and has two daughters. Mary isliving in Red Bluff, California.
Ray E. Leech was born April 14, 1888. Died February 8, 1968. MarriedAnn Lamson, no children. Died in Riverside, California.
James Wesley VanDruff was born in Rock Island, Illinois, March 12,1861. Died at Leavenworth, Kansas, May 30, 1940. Married Lavina (Viny)Griffits March 12, 1893 at the home ofMary and Wilbur Leech. Lavina was born September 12, 1871. Died July12, 1955. Buried in White ChapelGardens, Kansas City, North, Missouri.
To this union three children were born: Lynn, Alma Eliza, Ralph.
Lynn born in McLouth, Kansas, May 22, 1895. Died at Manhattan, Kansas,June 4, 1968. Buried at White Chapel Gardens. Alma Eliza was born July9, 1897 at Lawrence, Kansas.Moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, took up nurses training and was a nurse inWorld War I; came to Kansas City in1918 and married Edward T. Williams, who died February 8, 1953. OnApril 4, 1954 married Ernest Davis.
Ralph Wesley Roosevelt VanDruff was born on Theodore Roosevelt'sbirthday while he was President of the United States, October 27, 1907,at Tonganoxie, Kansas. Died January22, 1939, buried in New York.
Ulysses Grant VanDruff was born in Rock Island, Illinois, 1862. DiedAugust, 1949. Buried at Salina, Kansas.
Married Cora Dallas, at McLouth, Kansas. She was born June 17, 1863. Tothis union three children were born: Ralph, Buford and Nellie.
Ralph married Lula Bougher of Oakley, Kansas. To this union sixchildren were born: Gladys, Edna, Pearl, Alice, Ray and Roland. Pearl(Mrs. Russell Hartzell) lives in Salina.
Buford Jay was born July 5, 1894 at McLouth, Kansas. Died September 15,1956. Married Irene Cox of Blue Springs, Missouri. To this union nochildren were born: they have oneadopted daughter, Eula Jean Haldeman of Canton, Missouri. He was amember of the Antioch Community Church, wasChairman of the Board, Sunday School teacher, Past Worshipful Master ofN.K.C. Masonic Lodge, PastWorth Patron of the Eastern Star.
Nellie was born January 5, 1897, at McLouth, Kansas. Never married. Shewas a music teacher in Salina, Kansas, for many years. Died 1942,buried at Salina.
Kathora VanDruff was born McLouth, Kansas. Married Ernest Proud andmoved to Whittier, California in 1903.
Children: Lela, Lucian, Orville, Wilbur, Lucille.
Eldora VanDruff was born May 19, 1870 at McLouth, Kansas. Died November9, 1895. Never married. Buried Wild Horse cemetery, McLouth, Kansas.

"Uncle" Joe Vandruff died Wednesday evening after a pitifuldeliriousness of more than two weeks. It was hoped that consciousnesswould return that he might have a few parting wordswith her who was his faithful companion for more than fifty years, butthe anxious watchers were doomed todisappointment. The aged body could no longer stand the strain and hepassed to the Great Beyond. Mr. Vandruffwas a good, kind-hearted old man. He has lived in this community a longtime and his face was familiar to ahost of people. He has undergone a good many sorrows and afflictions.The funeral service will be held today at1 o'clock at the M. E. church. Rev. J. H. Zabriski of Morganville willpreach the funeral sermon. Obituary nextweek.

The Grange Store of McLouth, I. Pearson, manager, was originally atDimon, the store being moved when McLouth was laid out. The Grange wasorganized November 16, 1878, andat once was incorporated.
Commenced business February 6, 1879. Charter members, thirteen. Amongthese were I. Pearson, Joseph Vandruff, C. E. Andrus, C. E. Landon, W.F. Leech, A.P. Reardon, T. P.Getchel and James Thornton. The amount of business done in 1882 wasover $10,000. Present membership,forty.

Uncle Joe Vandruff passed away Friday. He was 78 years old, coming fromthe Island of Long Island, Ill., 32 years ago. He is the last of alarge family of brothers. His sister,Mrs. John Cross lives at McLouth. He leaves a wife, three sons and twodaughters, and a host of relatives to mournhis loss. Always a good friend and consistent christian. Rev. JamesZabriski preached the funeral service. They wereold friends.

Defendants
PETITION
FIRST: The plaintiffs for their first cause against said defendantssay: that Joseph Vandruff, late of Jefferson County, Kansas, diedintestate in said county on the 13th day ofDecember, 1901, leaving an estate in said county, consisting of realand personal property; said real property beingdescribed as follows, to wit; All of out-lot number one hundred andtwenty seven (127) in the City of McLouth inJefferson County, Kansas.
Plaintiffs further aver that there are no specific or general liens, orincumberances of any kind or character against said above describedreal estate, and that there are no debts againstthe estate of said Joseph Vandruff, deceased.
Plaintiffs further aver that said Joseph Vandruff, deceased, left ashis sole surviving heirs said plaintiffs, Eliza J. Vandruff, his widow;and Joshua Vandruff; James Vandruff; and U.G.Vandruff, his sons; and said defendants, Mary A. Leech; and CathoraProud, his daughters; that all of said heirsare of the full age of majority.
Plaintiffs further aver that as such heirs they are the owners of, andare entitled to the following shares in value of said above describedreal estate; and as follows, to-wit; Saiddefendant, Eliza J. Vandruff, is the owner of a onehalf (1/2) interestin value in and to said real estate; and that saidplaintiffs, Joshua Vandruff, James Vandruff, and U.G. Vandruff; andsaid defendants, Mary A. Leech, and Cathora Proud iseach respectively the owner of, and is entitled to a one-tenth (1/10)thereof.
Plaintiffs further say that said plaintiff, Eliza J. Vandruff, is theduly and legally appointed, qualified and acting guradian of saidplaintiff, Joshua Vandruff, a person of unsound mind.
SECOND: Plaintiffs for their second cause of action against saiddefendants say: that they hereby refer to their first cause of actionherein, and make the same a part of this theirsecond cause of action, and further allege: that the personal propertyleft by said Joseph Vandruff, deceased, consistedof money, promissory notes and chattle and real estate mortgages of theaggregate value and worth of about onethousand five hundred and fifty dollars ($1550.00), that one of thesenotes was in the sum of three hundreddollars ($300.00) executed and delivered to said Joseph Vandruff,deceased, by said defendant, Mary A. Leech, andthat the same is now due and unpaid; that another of said notes wasexecuted and delivered to said JosephVandruff, deceased, by said defendant, Cathora Proud, and that the sameis now due and unpaid; and that both saidnotes are now in the hands of said defendant, W.F. Leech, as theadministrator of said estate.
Plaintiffs further aver that said defendant, W.F. Leech, is the dulyappointed, qualified and acting administrator of the estate of saidJoseph Vandruff, deceased; that all of said personalproperty came into the hands of said administrator, and that from theproceeds arising from such propertysaid administrator has paid all debts and obligations of said estate,and the remaining portion of said propertyis now undistributed in the hands of said administrator.
WHEREFORE, Plaintiffs pray judgement against each and all of saiddefendants, that said plaintiff, Eliza J. Vandruff be adjudged to bethe owner of and entitled to a one-halfinterest in and to said real estate; and that said plaintiffs, JoshuaVandruff, James Vandruff, and U.G. Vandruff, andsaid defendants, Mary Leech and Cathora Proud, each be adjudged to bethe owner respectively of an undividedone-tenth (1/10) interest thereof; that commissioners be appointedaccording to law to make partition of saidreal estate according to said respective interests in value; and thatthe said note for three hundred dollars($300.00) be adjudged to be a lien against the share of said defendant,Mary A. Leech; and that the said note for onehundred dollars ($100.00) be adjudged to be a lien against the share ofsaid defendant, Cathora Proud; and thatif such partition cannot be made without manifest injury to the rightsof the parties herein, then that saidreal property be appraised according to law, and if neither plaintiffnor any of said defendants elect to take saidproperty at its appraised value, then that said property be sold as onexecution, and that the proceeds thereof beapportioned among said plaintiffs and defendants, except saiddefendant, W.F. Leech, according to theirrespective interests; ,that the part apportioned to said plaintiffs bepaid to them respectively; that the partapportioned to said defendant, Mary A. Leech, be used first to thepayment of said note for three hundred dollars ($300.00)with all accrued interest thereon, and the remainder thereof be paid tosaid defendant, Mary A. Leech; that thepart apportioned to said defendant, Cathora Proud be used first to thepayment of said note for one hundred dollars($100.00) with all accrued interest thereon, and the remainder thereofbe paid to said defendant, CathoraProud; and that all sums so collected on said notes be apportinedbetween all said plaintiffs and saiddefendants, Mary A. Leech and Cathora Proud, according to theirrespective interests.
That the said administrator, W.F. Leech, be directed to makeapportionment of the property now in his hands as such administrator,among said heirs according to their respectiveinterests; and in making such apportionment that be directed toproperly assign and transfer all uncollected notesto the different heirs of said estate as may be equitable andexpedient; and for such further orders and judgementsregarding costs, expenses and attorney fees as is provided by law, andfor all proper equitable relief.

Eliza Jane Eberhart
Was born in Orleans County, New York, February 1, 1835 and died at thehome of her daughter, Mrs. W. F. Leech, Oskaloosa, Kansas, October 5,1918, age 83 years, 8 months, 4days.
In early childhood she removed with her parents to Rock Island Co.,Illinois, where on May 25, 1850 she was united in marriage to JosephVandruff.
In the year 1868, she removed in company with her husband and family toJefferson County, Kansas, where she has since resided.
To them were born eight children, four of whom survive her, viz: MaryA. Leech, of Oskaloosa, Kansas, James W. Vandruff of Topeka, Kansas, U.G. Vandruff, of Oakley, Kansas, andCathora Proud, of La Habre, California, also sixteen grandchildren andsix great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Joseph Vandruff, preceded her to the eternal home onNovember 7, 1901, where he, with their four children who passed overbefore them have awaited her coming.
She was converted to the religion of her saviour at the age of twelveyears, and united with the United Brethren Church in Illinois. Whenlater removing to Kansas, she deposited herLetter wiith the M. E. Church of McLouth, Kansas, and on removing toOskaloosa was transferred to the M. E.Church of said city.
She has always lived a conscientious christian life, and was alwaysready and glad to extend the helping hand to others, and during hermany months of sickness and suffering, she boreher afflictions with patience, always looking forward to the HeavenlyFather for the day of deliverance andreward.
Oh, Dear Mother, thou hast gone to the Paradise of God, and from whencethy radiant face and beckoning hand shall call your loved ones of earthto that home with them.
The funeral services were conducted in the Methodist church by herpastor, Rev. T. A. Nichols, assisted by Rev. Reed of the Presbyterianchurch.
Interment was in the Wildhorse Cemetery, south of McLouth.

Miss Dora Vandruff, the life-long invalid daughter of Mr. and Mrs.Joseph Vandruff died last Saturday. Of such it may truly be said, "Todie is gain." Many friends attended thefuneral services which were conducted by Mr. Kline.
