At the Borough of Franklin in the County of Venango & State of Penna on the 26 day of February AD 1850 Nicholas Mada, a native of Germany came before Alex Cochran Prothonotary of the Court of Common Pleas in and for said County & State and filed the Declaration of his intentions to become a citizen of the United States agreeably to the provisions of the acts of Congress of the United States in such case made and provided as follows
Nicholas Mada a native of Germany do swear that it is bona fide my intentions to become a citizen of the United States and I do hereby renounce and abjure forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince Potentate State or Sovereignty whatever and particularly I do hereby renounce & abjure forever all allegiance and fidelity to William King of Germany whereof I was heretofore last a subject.

The Petition of Nicholas Mada
A Native of Germana
Respectfully showeth:
That your Petitioner arrived in the United States of America, to wit: at the Port of Baltimore on the twenty seventh day of December A. D. 1846 and that in pursuance of an act of Congress, entitled "An Act to establish an uniform rule of Naturalization, and to repeal the acts heretofore passed on that subject," made a declaration of his intention to become a Citizen, and a report and registry of his nativity, age, allegiance, emigration, arrival and intended place of settlement in the United States conformably to the said Act, before the Prothonotary of the Court of Common Pleas of the County of Venango and State of Pennsylvania a certificate whereof is hereunto annexed; and that he has resided within the limits, and under the jurisdiction of the United States for five years last past, and for one year last past within the State of Pennsylvania; that he has never borne any hereditary title, or been any of the orders of nobility in the kingdom whence he came, or elsewhere. He, therefore, prays he may be admitted to become a Citizen of the United States.

Henry Apman a Citizen of the United States, who being duly sworn according to law, says, that he is well acquainted with the above named Petitioner, and that to his knowledge and belief, he has resided within the limits, and under the jurisdiction of the United States for five years last past, and for one year last past, within the State of Pennsylvania; that during the same period, he has behaved himself as a man of good moral character, attached to the principles of the Constitution of the Untied States, and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same.

do on my solemn oath declare, that the contents of my Petition are true; that I will support the Constitution of the United States; and I do hereby renounce and relinquish any title or order of nobility to which I am or hereafter may be entitled; and that I do absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign Prince, Potentate, State and Sovereignty whatever, and particularly to the King of Germany of whom I was before a subject.
