Will and Testament of Abel
Campbell Menallen Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania In
the name of God Amen, I Abel
Campbell of Menallen Township in the County of Fayette, being
of sound mind and disposing memory and calling to mind the uncertainty
of life and my advanced age do make and publish this my last will and
testament in the manner following: that is to say, my will is that all
my just debts be paid, Secondly, I will and bequeath unto my beloved
wife Susannah
Campbell the rents issues and profits of the plantation on
which I reside situate in Menallen Township in the County aforesaid,
continuing one hundred and sixty three acres during the term of her
natural life. I also give
and devise to my said wife the choice of my dwelling houses on said
plantation together with the garden
yard and the necessary out houses for & during the term of her
natural life. I also give
and bequeath to my said wife, two cows, One horse saddle and bridle, all
my household and kitchen furniture, except the clock which I give to her
during life and then my son Abel
is to have the said clock.. Thirdly, I give and bequeath to my son James
my carry all and harness. Fourthly,
I direct my executors to sell the rest and residue of my personal
estate, and to collect all monies which may be owing to me and after the
payment of all debts and other charges place the balance to interest
during the life of my wife and if necessary, I desire the interest
thereof and such part of the principle to be a applied by my
executors to the conformable support of my said wife during her said
life. Fifthly, after the
death of my said wife, I do order and direct that my Executors sell my
plantation aforesaid, for the best price that can be gotten for the same
for cash in hand or on such reasonable credit, as they in their
discretion may judge for the best for my estate, and the one half of the
proceeds of the sale of the same, together with what money may be on
hand, and unexpended of my personal estate not otherwise disposed of pay
over to all my children share and share alike,
It is also my will that the share or part which would fall to my
daughter Elizabeth
Hyat be for own separate use made under and subject to her
own control and her receipt therefore shall be a good voucher for my
Executors and if she prefer my said executors shall place the same out
to interest for her and pay over the interest thereof to her and
the principle from time to time as she may require the same.
The other half of the proceeds of the said plantation I direct my
Executors to divide into seven shares or parts and one share of part
thereof I give and bequeath
to my son Lewis,
one other share or part I give and bequeath to my son William, two shares or parts thereof, I
give to my son James
two other shares or parts I give and bequeath to my son Abel
and the remaining share or part I give to my son Ellis.
Sixtly, It is my will that if my daughter Elizabeth
should not dispose of her share, a part hereby devised to her that the
same or whatever part thereof may remain in the hands of my Executors at
her death, shall be paid over to her children, or the survivors or
survivor of them. lastly, i do nominate my son Lewis
the Executors of this my last will and testament thereby revoking all
other will or wills by me made. In
Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand seal, this eighteenth day
of November Anno Domini, one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine. signed
sealed published and pronounced by the testator,
as and for his last will and testament in our presence.

above named testator do hereby make and ordain the following codicil, to
the foregoing last will and testament, that is to say, I do give and
bequeath unto my beloved wife Susannah
all my household and kitchen furniture including my clock, to have and
to hold the same to her and her heirs and assigns forever.
I also thereby direct that the rents, issues and profits of my
real estate as mentioned in the above will be deposited in the hands of
my son Lewis to be applied by him to the use and comfort of my said wife,
as she may need the same and in like manner, all the monies which may
come to the hands of my executors, and not required for the payment of
debts and all necessary shares I desire may deposited in the hands of my
said son Lewis
to be applied as aforesaid.
In Witness Whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal the 30th

Gadd Register for the probate of wills and granting letter of
administration in and for the Count of Fayette, Personally came John
Dawson Esq. and James
F. Canon the subscribing witness to the foregoing instrument
of writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Abel
late of Menallen Township, Fayette County dec'd and being sworn
according to law does each depose and say that they were present and saw
& heard the testator Abel
Campbell, sign seal pronounce & declare the same, as and
for his last will and testament and that at the time of so doing he was
of perfect and sound mind memory and under standing to the best of their
knowledge observations and belied that they know of no undue influence
used or later will made by the dec'd & that they signed their names
a witnessed thereto in the presence of & at the request of the
testator and in the presence of each other. And at the same time came John
Dawson Esq. aforesaid, and Meleha
Baily now Meleha
Barclay, being intermarried with William
D Barclay) the subscribing witness to the codicil to the
aforesaid last will and testament of Abel
Campbell dec'd the first of whom being
sworn and the latter affirmed according to law depose the and saith that
they were present & saw and heard the testator signed seal pronounce
& declare the same to be a codicil to his last will and testament
and that at the time of so doing he was of perfect & sound mind
memory and understanding to the best of their knowledge observation
& belief that they know of no later will or codicil made by the
testator, & that they know of no undue influence used to procure the
making of the same that they signed their names as witnesses thereto in
the presence of & at the request of the testator in the presence of
each other. In Testimony
whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal of the Register office at
Uniontown the day & date aforesaid. Memo.
Letters Testamentary granted to Lewis
Campbell & Abel
Campbell, (Wm. Campbell, the other ex. named having removed out of the
state) who were duly affirmed 12, Dec. A. D. 1846 renunciation Wm. Campbell
filed with will March 6, 1850. Registered
& Compared 12th December, A. D. 1846.
