LYTLE— At his home near Vanderbilt, Dunbar township, John Lytle, aged 72 years, early yesterday morning, January 6th, 1898. Deceased had enjoyed excellent health all his life. He had not been sick previous to his last and fatal illness during the past 46 years. A quick fever, which developed rapidly from Sunday, was the cause of his death, a death which will be learned of with regret by the people of the whole township, for Lytle was one of these characters whose business methods and personal traits won many friends and gained few enemies. John Lytle was born within a mile of the spot where he died and during his whole life he lived in Dunbar township, following farming as his occupation. About 15 years ago he sold 33 acres of coal land at $35 an acre, which is today worth many times that amount. He then purchased what was known as the Gilchrist farm, and sold the mining rights alone under a tract of 55 acres for $2,200. Deceased was twice married. His first wife was in maidenhood Miss Emeline Dunn. The surviving children of this union are the following: Robert F. Lytle of New Haven; Mrs. Martha Jane, wife of Conrad Snyder, George Lytle, Joseph Pancost Lytle of Pittsburg; Mrs. Bette, wife of Clark Hixon who resides on the old place. After the death of his first wife deceased wedded Emeline Stuck and the children of this union are Mary Elizabeth, Margaret and Hugh, all of whom reside at home. The funeral will be held tomorrow morning at 11 o’clock. Services will be conducted at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Vanderbilt by Rev. J. B. Hamilton, pastor, and the body will be laid to rest in the cemetery at that place.
