The Story of the Swartz Family
...history begins in a small cemetery
in Lower Swatara Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. The
Swartz/Nissley cemetery contains the tombstones of the earliest
members of the Swartz family in this country, including that of
Christian Schwartz, who was born November 16, 1745
According to the "History of the Counties of
Dauphin and Lebanon," Solomon L. Swartz, of Middletown,
traces his descent from Christian Schwartz (I), who was born in
Germany, and on emigrating to the United States settled first
in Lancaster (now Berks) County. He moved thence to Dauphin
County, where he became the owner of two hundred and sixty acres
of preservation.

To the rear of the Nissley Mansion (farmhouse), on a gentle elevation
enclosed by a neat paling fence, whitewashed very nicely, is the
"God's Acre" where rest the bodies of several families who have lived
here for a century or more. We copy the following inscriptions (E.W.S. Parthemore)
