Searching: THOMPSON, COYLE, ORWICK THOMPSON, COYLE STILL trying to find more about Thomas THOMPSON, father of Thomas THOMPSON, Jr., and grandfather of Calista THOMPSON COYLE. He is reported to have enlisted in the Rev. War from Cumberland County; information was in "1886 History of Cumberland County," pages 550-551, in the bio of James COYLE, who was Thomas THOMPSON's great-grandson and brother of my great-great grandmother Mary Ann COYLE ORWICK. It states that Thomas THOMPSON was of English origin. Since it's a common name, it has given me TROUBLE. Do any of you have access to the CD "Military Records: Revolutionary War Soldiers & Sailors"? Is Thomas THOMPSON listed? Eternally grateful for any new light on him! |

Searching: WALKER, McCLINTOCK, HODGE Seek all information about two James WALKERs of Cumberland Co PA. The first James Walker lived in Cumberland Co PA prior to moving to Lenox Castle, Rockingham Co NC; his wife, Ann MCCLINTOCK, also came from Cumberland Co PA. James Walker left a will dated 21 May 1803 in Rockingham Co NC naming his wife and children, who were William WALKER, Jane WALKER wife of John HERRON, Nancy WALKER wife of James HODGE, John WALKER, Elizabeth / Betsy WALKER, Mary / Polly WALKER, Abraham WALKER and Alexander WALKER. In 1797-1811, Ann McClintock Walker was involved in correspondence back and forth with kinspeople in Cumberland Co PA in connection with an inheritance she had coming to her from the estate of one Hugh TORRANCE of Cumberland Co PA, whose widow died in about 1806. Ann had a brother named Daniel MCCLINTOCK of Newville? Township and other locations in Cumberland Co PA, who died during the winter of 1810 / 1811; possible other siblings were Jean MCCLINTOCK wife of Daniel MCDANNEL or MCDONALD or MCDANIEL, who lived in Mifflin Township, Cumberland Co PA; Catharine MCCLINTOCK who died 10 September 1806; and Saraha [sic] MCCLINTOCK who died in October 1806. Mention is also made of an Alexander MCCLINTOCK. Reference is made in one of these letters to land belonging to an Andrew WALKER. Who were the parents of this James WALKER? Who were the parents of his wife, Ann MCCLINTOCK? The other James WALKER was a Revolutionary War soldier and pensioner who deposed on 26 October 1832 in Adams Co OH that he had been born on 2 March 1755 in Cumberland Co PA; that when he entered the service on 1 February 1776 he was living with his father in Orange Co NC the part that since then [in 1777] became Caswell Co NC; that shortly after the war ended he lived in Pennsylvania again for a short time; that he then moved to Rockbridge Co VA and lived there for 13 years; and that he then moved to Adams Co OH, where he had resided "to the present day" (26 October 1832). He had four people to vouch for his good character: William WALKER, Stephen BALDWIN, John BAUGHMAN (BOWMAN?) and Thomas CURREY, the last-named described as "a clergyman residing in the County of Adams and State of Ohio". Who were this soldier's parents? Whom did he marry? Thank you for any assistance! I am happy to share information. |

Searching: CULVER, SWEET I'm researching the lineage of Solomon CULVER (1786 - ?) and Rebecca SWEET (1805 - ?). Solomon was born in Pennsylvania. The Federal Census of 1790 lists only three Culver families, two in Cumberland County, and one in Franklin County. There is also a Solomon Culver listed in the 1800 Federal Census for Luzerne County, PA. Rebecca was born is Vermont. Solomon and Rebecca had seven children, including 2 sets of twins! Their children were Eveline & Angeline (twins), Elias, Henry & Hetable (twins), Martha, and Julia Etta. Solomon and family lived in Sterling, NY around 1845. Family legend states that Solomon was a Methodist Minister at Sterling, Cayuga County, NY. After 1850 Solomon is no longer listed with his family in the census records. However, Rebecca remained in Sterling. Have been unable to locate burial grounds for either Solomon or Rebecca. |
