Date: 5 DEC 96 From: B Jansen Searching: KNAP, KNUP, KNOP, KNAP, etc
Am trying to find a connection to a Knoop (spelled many different ways: Knap,Knup, Knop, Knab, etc) family who had four sons set out from Pennsylvania (one source says that one of the sons was from Cumberland Co.) to explore western central Ohio around the turn of the 19th century. Sons' names were Benjamin, John, Christian and Daniel and they were among the first white settlers in Miami County, Ohio. In the 1820's at least two children of a Michael Knoop, (born in Pennsylvania, bred his family in New Brunswick), came to Miami County and settled. Now, my theory is that there has to be some connection between these two families, but I have not yet been able to establish it. Does anyone have any ideas how I can untangle this family tree? I have looked in Pennsylvania Dutch church records and have found a few possiblities but nothing definitive. I suspect with the number of Knoops in the records that maybe someone has done some research in this family and can help.
