Date: 19 Oct 96 From: Chuck Thompson Searching: DRY SPRING, NEWTON TWP
I have a description of a piece of land which has always been presumed to be along the Green Spring in Newton township. Three different deeds written between 1766 and 1784 provide a clear, legible description of this property, so that there is no question re legibility or spelling. The part in question reads as follows: "Beginning at a post standing on a stream of water known by the name of the Dry Spring Thence (including the head of said spring) by land of Alexander Scroggs the.....etc., etc." Green Spring is not mentioned. Does anyone familiar with early Newton township geography recognize the term "the Dry Spring?" There is a Dry Run in Hopewell Twp that originates in Newton.
