"A C Love Died Yesterday After Long Illness - Well Known Resident of City for Many
Years Will Be Buried Saturday - Alfred C Love, 74, for many years a resident of Titusville, died at his home, 220 West Walnut
street, at about 4 o'clock yesterday morning. Mr Love had been ill for several years but not confined to the bed until
about three weeks ago. Mr Love was [the] son of Warren P and Rebecca Gray Love and was born in Phoenix, NY, March 10, 1863.
His father was engaged in boating on the Erie canal but was attractd to the Pennsylvania oil regions in the early seventies.
The family first located at Shamburg and later came to Titusville. The elder Mr Love continued in the oil business for a
number of years and later operated hotels in Titusville, having at various times been landlord of the Mansion House, the
American House and the European hotel. The son, Alfred, was associated with him. As a young man, the deceased was much
interested in athletics and he received a number of gold medals for records he made as a runner. He was also interested in
horse racing and was one of the leaders when the Lake Erie Trotting Circuit included Titusville. He served as secretary of
the Oil Creek Valley Agricultural Association which conducted fairs in Titusville for many years. Mr Love possessed a genial
personality and made friend with all whom he came in contact. Prior to his retirement on account of physical disability, Mr
Love was connected for a number of years with the Marsh Gauge Pole company. On November 8, 1888, Mr Love was married to Miss
Louise Allen, daughter of the late Mr and Mrs M N Allen. She survives him with the following children: Mrs Charles E Stone of
Penn Yan, NY, Mrs H C Peek of Kenmore, NY, Warren A Love and Allen N Love of Titusville. There are two grandchildren,
Margaret Louise Stone and Warren F Love, and one sister, Mrs G L Ackerman of this city. Mr Love was a life member of
Titusville lodge BPO Elks. The body was prepared for interment at the F H landers funeral home where friends are invited to
call today and this evening. Tomorrow the casket will be taken to the family home, 220 West Walnut street, where services
will be conducted at 3:15 pm and friends are invited. Rev Albert Broadhurst, rector of St James' Episcopal church, will
officiate and interment will be in Woodlawn."
