"RECENT DEATHS - Mrs Omri Goodwill - Mrs Martha Goodwill, nee Connell, wife of Omri Goodwill, died at her home in Oil Creek township, May 14, 1904.
Mrs Goodwill was born Oct 11, 1836, on Fink Ridge, Rome township, and spent the whole of her life in Rome and Oil Creek townships.
She was the last surviving member of her father's family. For a number of years the deceased had been afflicted with consumption.
Possessing a remarkably strong constitution, she was able to fight bravely the battle in which she knew she would soon have to yield.
Her death has removed one who has been long known by many as a noble and true type of womanhood. Hers was a model home.
She was a true helpmeet, faithful in duty, strong and helpful in counsel. She was a kind and patient mother, affectionately loved by her children.
Twenty-four years ago she became a member of the Wesleyan Methodist church, to which she strove to be true and loyal.
In her last few months of suffering she showed great patience and resignation. She is survived by her husband,
three sons and four daughters: Edgar J, Spartansburg; Oscar O, Hydetown; James, Titusville; Miranda C Ross, Oil Creek township;
Mary Lester, Spartansburg; Martha J Southwick and Clara E Slater, Titusville. Funeral services were held at her home Monday, May 16, at 1 pm, by the
Rev E C Rickenbrode of Hydetown, who spoke from Psalms 90:9. Mrs E C Rickenbrode, Miss Bertha Hawthorne, J H Jones and R W Reynolds sang
the following appropriate selections: 'Home of the Soul,' 'Waiting and Watching for Me,' and 'We'll Never Say Good-bye in Heaven.'
The large concourse of people present at the services attested to the high esteem in which the deceased was held. The interment took place at the Fink burial grounds, Rome township."
