US Marine Corps veteran, World War I "President of 2nd National Bank Dies - Arvid H Anderson Succumbs After Lengthy Illness; On Staff 40 Years - Arvid H Anderson, 58, president and trust officer of the Second National Bank and for 40 years a member of its staff, died at 6:45 am yesterday at the Titusville Hospital after an illness of two years. He entered the hospital last Monday. Mr Anderson, who lived at 213 W Elm St, was a man of broad civic interests and one of the best-known and well-liked men of the city. He was a veteran of World War I. Joining the bank on July 23, 1914, he was advanced in responsibility over the years to the position of cashier. He was elected vice president and trust officer on Jan 8, 1946. On Oct 1, 1952, Mr Anderson was made president and trust officer. He was a member of the bank's board of directors for several terms. The bank president was a member of Group 7 of the Pennsylvania Bankers' Association and had served as a member of its executive committee. The son of the late Mr and Mrs Claes J Anderson, he was born in Titusville on Nov 11, 1895, and graduated from Titusville High School in 1914. On Oct 16, 1926, he married the former Margaret Ogilvie Jameson. Mr Anderson enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on Dec 4, 1917, and was later commissioned a second lieutenant at Quantico, Va. He was assigned to the naval base at Newport, RI. He was promoted to the rank of first lieutenant and was honorably discharged from the Corps in September, 1919. Active in Marine League - He always took a keen interest in the affairs of the Marines. A member of the Marine Corps League for several years, he was one of the founders of the Captain Robert Lee Green Detachment here in 1946 and was a past commander. Mr Anderson was a member and past commander of the Cleo J Ross Post of the American Legion. He was a former trustee of the Legion Home Association, and spent much time and effort as one of those who made possible the construction of the Legion Home on East Central Avenue toward the end of World War II. He was a member of the War Finance Committee and Victory Committee during that war. Mr Anderson served on the vestry of St James' Memorial Church. He was a member of the Titusville Rotary Club. He served on the board of the YMCA and was serving as a trustee of that organization at the time of his death. He was also a member of the executive committee of the Red Cross. For many years, Mr Anderson was actively engaged in the affairs of the Titusville Chamber of Commerce, serving as director. A skilled golfer, he played on many of the Titusville Country Club's championship teams. He served the club as president just prior to World War II. Mr Anderson was a member of Titusville Lodge 754, F and AM. Besides his wife, he leaves two sisters, Miss Wilhelmina Anderson of Titusville and Mrs Esther Gosford of Philadelphia, and two nieces, Mrs William T Kinder of Titusville and Mrs Meffert Kurhtz of Washington, DC. The body is at the residence at 213 W Elm St, where friends may call until noon Saturday, when it will be removed to the St James' Memorial Church. The funeral service will be held there at 2 pm, with Rev L Herdman Harris 3rd officiating. Interment with full military honors will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery. The E A Peterson funeral home is in charge of arrangements."
