George Espy was born in Cumberland County in 1759 He enlisted to defend the frontier against the Indians. He was placed on the pension roll, 1832, for one year's actual service as private, in the Pennsylvania Line. He died in Espyville, Crawford County in 1835.

He married Polly Patterson.  His daughter, Mary Espy married Joseph Stevenson.
