John Englehaupt was born in Germany in 1756.  He served as a private in Captain Hare's company, Colonel Posey's regiment of Pennsylvania Light Horse. His widow, Barbara Stump Englehaupt, received a pension. John Englehaupt died in Crawford County, PA in 1833.  His widow died in 1842. 

Their daughter Salome Englehaupt (1797-1881), married Washington Sterling in 1826.
