Company C, 52nd Illinois Volunteer Infantry

Rose to the rank of Sergeant; 

reenlisted December 1863

Stricken with smallpox while on leave in 1863, but recovered.  Taken prisoner while guarding the smallbox ambulances near Fayetteville, NC and sent to Libby Prison in Richmond.  Freed the day Grant entered Richmond.  Returned home to Crawford County, died 20 Feb 1880 in Jacksonville, Florida from tuberculosis and is buried with other members of his family in Conneaut Cemetery in Fairfield Township.
