Rev. George Washington Hatch, retired Minister of the Baptist Church and beloved citizen for many years of this vicinity, died at his home here, on Wednesday May 7, following a lingering illness. He was 81 years, and 29 days old at the time of his demise. Born in Magnolia, Wis., on April 8, 1860, Rev. Hatch came to Pennsylvania with his parents when he was three years of age, where they settled in Crawford County, where he spent his early boyhood. He attended Crawford County Schools and later Allegheny College Academy and Bucknell University, where he graduated in the class of 1888, and from the Crozer Seminary in the class of 1897. On October 17, 1888, he was united in marriage to L. Blanche Andrews, of West Vernon, Crawford County, who survives. On December 11, 1888, he was ordained by a council of the Baptist Church at Litchfield, Pennsylvania., of which George Trapp was moderator. During his 50 years service in the ministry, he served Parishes from Eastern Pennsylvania, to the foothills of the Alleghenies. He was active in civic affairs and in granges, served as Chaplin for many years in Pomona, and State grange and was a member of the Noble Lodge F. & A. M., of Curwensville, Pennsylvania., Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Wanda Johnson, of Bellslanding., a son, Owen, of Niagara Falls, N. Y., a foster son, Oliver J. Andrews, of Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania., and three grandchildren, a brother, Virgil, of Mabton, Washington., and a sister, Mrs. M. E. Wolverton, of Angleton, Texas., Services were held from the residence on Saturday, May 10, at one o'clock and at two o'clock in the Baptist Church, with Rev. Paul S. Parker, of Clearfield., assisted by Rev. O. B. Poulson, of Punxsutawney., and Rev. Cora Ardery, of Curwensville., officiating, Members of the Pomona Grange, served as pallbearers, and Honor Escort, with members of the Bellslanding Baptist Church Council, as Honorary bearers, to his final resting place in Crown Crest Memorial Park at Clearfield., where the Pomona Grange services were read, followed by the Masonic Fraternity officers, from Noble Lodge F. & A. M. of Curwensville.
