James Hanna attended Oil City schools, and went to Greenville Christian Academy, Greenville, IL. He went to Asbury, Kentucky for one year of college, and attended Mount Lake School of Theology in Maryland.
He worked in a machine shop at the oil well, and at the Oil City National Bank, the Oil City Post Office, and the Borland Lumber Company. As a boy he delivered the Oil City Newspapers.
Rev. Hanna was a member of the Western Pennsylvania Methodist Conference, and pastored churches for almost 30 years in Northwestern PA. He played the trumpet, E-Flat Alto horn, and Trombone in school, church, and the Boy Scout band.
