Cooper, J. A., master mechanic for the Eastern Division of the New York, Pennsylvania & Ohio Railroad, Meadville, was born in the State of New Jersey, July 24, 1831, and is a son of Albert and Mary (Concklin) Cooper, both natives of New Jersey, of Holland descent, the father a blacksmith by trade. J. A., who is the third in a family of seven children, received a district school education in his native county. He first learned the trade of his father, at which he continued for a time. Since 1851 he has been in railroad employment of various kinds, and has filled them all satisfactorily. He was married in Meadville in 1860 to Anna, daughter of Aaron Johnson, and they have two sons—Frank and Bert. Mrs. Cooper is a member of the Baptist Church. Our subject has been a member of the School Board for two terms, and a resident of the city since 1863.
