Honorable Pearson Church

CHURCH, Honorable Pearson was born at Mercer, Pa., March 13, 1838, and is the eldest son of Hon. Gaylord Church, President Judge of the 6th judicial district from 1843 to 1852. He came to Meadville with his parents when a child. His education was acquired exclusively at Meadville in private schools and at Allegheny College. The latter institution he entered April, 1853 and graduated in the class of 1856. In 1855 he began the study of law with his father and carried it on for a year in connection with his college course. He was admitted to the Crawford county bar, February 9, 1858, and continued in the practice of his profession until in 1877, when he was elected President Judge of the 30th Judicial district, he took his seat on the bench January, 1878 for a term of ten years. In 1872 he was President of the Board of Control of the Meadville public schools, and the same year was elected delegate to the Constitutional Convention, and during 1872 and 1873 assisted in forming the new and present Constitution, adopted December 16, 1873. Married October 14, 1868, to Kate S. Law daughter of the late Hon. Samuel A. Law, of Delaware county, N. Y. Judge Church is a member of the Protestant Episcopal Church, and is a Democrat in politics.
