Joseph Vesco, Former Boro Official, Dies
CURWENSVILLE — Joseph E. Vesco, well-known Curwensville resident and former Borough Council president, died yesterday at 6:22 a.m. in the Clearfield Hospital. He was 72.
Mr. Vesco, a retired State Highway Department foreman, was first elected to Council in 1957, reelected to a four-year term in 1961 and became president the following year.
A veteran of World War I, he was a longtime member and active in affairs of Joshua Earl Sipes American Legion Post 505 of Curwensville. He filled various offices of the post over the years, including that of commander.
Mr. Vesco was chaplain of the American Legion's 23rd District for a number of years and was instrumental in helping organize Susquehanna Barracks 1416, World War I Veterans, of Curwensville.
He was a charter member of the latter organization and in 1961 was elected to serve as its commander. Mr. Vesco also belonged to Robert Ferguson Post 842, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Rescue Hose & Ladder Co .
Sons of Italy and a number of other civic and fraternal organizations.
In addition, he was a member of the Curwensville United Methodist Church.
Mr. Vesco was born May 30, 1896, a son of Dominic and Mary (Armand) Vesco, both of whom preceded him in death. His survivors include a number of cousins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Russell H. Lininger Funeral Home with Rev. David E. Kemberling officiating and interment following in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call in the funeral home from2 p.m. tomorrow until time of services Saturday.
