Herschel E. Elder, 80, of Curwensville R.D., died at Clearfield Hospital, Monday, Oct. 3 at 11:30 p.m.
He was born in Curwensville Dec. 28, 1896, and he was the son of Samuel and Alice (Nichols) Elder.
He was a retired employe of Howes Leather Company, was a member of the First Baptist Church, Curwensville, where he was a lifelong Deacon;
he was a charter member of the Christian Businessmen's Committee of Clearfield; and he was a member of the Curwensville American Legion.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War One.
Survivors include his wife, the former Violet Quick; a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Graham of Clearfield, and a number of nieces and nephews.
His parents, two sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, Oct. 6 at 1:30 p.m. at the Russell H. Lininger Funeral Home, Curwensville. The Rev. Robert Densmore will officiate. Interment will follow at Crown Crest Memorial Park.
Friends will be received at the funeral home Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. and until the hour of the service Thursday.
