the provisions made by the Act pf Congress passed June 7, 1832. That in the
time of the Revolutionary (sic) his father George Goss lived in Northumberland
County Penna. And left the family of which he the said Abraham was one, and
went to the war, that he the said Abraham was then young, and the year which
his father started he cannot recollect, but he does recollect that it was said
he was enlisted as a Fifer. The deponents father remained away perhaps a year
or a year and a half and returned with Regimentals on. There he bound him to
be a Tailor to a man named Bown, now dead with whom he lived perhaps 3 or 4
years when his Father & Mother returned from the Army and took him the said Abraham along with him to the Army. The regiment to which he and his father were attached was Col. Stewarts, commonly called “the Irish beauty”. He was enlisted for the purpose of being a Fifer and was taught by his father. He thinks it was in the Jersey he and his father joined the army. He remained in the Army for 3 or 4 years marching backwards and forwards to and from difficult places which he can’t now recollect. The said Abram Goss saith that he received a discharge from Col. Stewart at Trenton or some such place and (smudge) that a Certificate of Service from Col. Steward who lived near Philadelphia in 1793. The discharge he has lost and the Certificate he gave to Wm. Pebiken Esq now decd and Roland Curbin - that Wm Pebiken died in the year 1821 and Roland Curdin has lost it as he says. The defendant saith that when he got the Certificate from Col. Stewart it was for the purpose of taking to the proper office at Philadelphia. This was when the yellow fever raged there. He saw the clerk who showed him his name on the Roll of Col. Stewarts Regiment. The said Abraham Goss saith that during the period aforesaid he was young and has not a distinct recollection of the places where Battles were fought nor the year. He thinks the name of the Captain of the Company was Moore but not certain. He well recollects George Washington and Col. Stewart, and also that when a battle was about to come on he was directed, being young, to remain from it. He saith that he was altogether employed as a Fifer, and being young, he frequently played by the direction of Washington and Stewart and others on particular occasions. He returned to North ? County with his father and from there returned to Lycoming County, thence to the Bald Eagle in Centre County and now resides in Clearfield County.
